Comcast. hah, giveing back what they took. I was with @home 2 years ago. I used to get 4500-5200k down and 800-1200k up for 6 months straight, then comcast picked up for them. 2 months later, i just kept getting slower and slower, No warning or telling me about speed slowdown, I called everyday, they said no problems. I complained that their ad said 50x faster than a phoneline. 128 k is only 3-4x of your average phone upload.

So they throw us a a little 256k up, big deal, watch them raise the price $3 or something like that.

You can upload at 32 kbps with your phone line (not talking about ISDN)
That's simply amazing :Q

Actually, 128 kbps/50x = 2.56 for phone line upload sounds about right, if not high.

Anyway, they ARE in fact raising the price by a couple of bucks, no surprise there.
No mention about increase my upload to 256k anywhere in the latest bill or their website (in central NJ).
If they charge me extra and don't provide me with faster connection, I'd be pretty pissed (too).

the overall price increase is only by $1 if you rent your modem, they are raising service up by $3 but lowering modem fees by $2.

I am in the Union area of New Jersey and they said in the January bill saying that the upload will be increased to 256kbps. I think it said something about February, but so far I still have 128 kbps. They better not bill me extra if I'm still getting 128kbps.

Does anyone know if this is a national policy? This is great if it happens in my area (baltimore, md). i wonder how this will affect pro customers... they pay like $50 more to have what used to be 200% more upload speed. all of a sudden it's only 50% more upload bandwidth. i heard pro service download speeds are faster too though.
oh well, as long as they are doubling my upload, i'm happy

You pooheads got me all worked up. I thought it unsual today that my connection didn't work, but I know to reset my modem and router, and it came back up. I hadn't even considered the possibility of them upgrading so soon, since they are not the hottest company out there... IMO. I am seeing an extra 128k on the downstream... Ran tests to Megapath and Linkline and came up with 1660/80 and 1663/122 respectively.

For some cable modems, Any easy way to check the Speed Limits that your Cable ISP is putting on you is to view properties of the cablemodem (much like you do with a Linksys Router etc...).

On my Motorola Surfboard (from ATTBI/Comcast) I can access my cable modem's html status pages by opening up a web browser and going to http://192.168.100.1

(the default IP they give their cable modems). Going to the "signals" menu it shows my "maximum" download speed is set to 1800000 bps (ie 1.8Mbps) and upload to 256000 bps (ie 256K)

your mileage may vary

I signed up for at&t ~6months ago in Seattle, and consistently get 1.5Mbps/256kbps.

Anyone heard of deals for existing customers now that comcast is taking over?

Yeah...the new "deal" is an increase in price! :|

Got a letter from ATT/Comcast/THE DEVIL yesterday saying my prices would be going up by $7 unless I also got cable from them, which would increase prices by $10. So for an extra $3 I could get basic CATV. Bastages! It's blackmail I tell you!

Comcast wanted to increase my rate to $60 as well, but I told them I wanted to cancel, and miraculously they found a better deal for me: $56 - including internet & standard cable

Ok, here's an update from my end in baltimore, md.
actually i live in howard county. i was measuring around 124 upstream last night. i power cycled my modem and measured again. 240kbs WOOHOO!
Some amy need to do this to realize the change in upload speed. I confirmed with my old manager that works at comcast, at least my area should be getting 256 upload. if not call in and complain

I reset my Linksys cable modem by unplugging power for a few seconds.
Then I powered back up and pressed the hidden reset button just to make sure.
It took over a minute to sync back up, but after it was done my upload speed doubled too.

download: 1.8Mbps
upload: 245Kbps

I'm in Bucks County, Pennsylvania outside Philadelphia.

I was with @home a few months before Comcast took over and the DL speeds were much higher then.
