Comcast is getting faster...all the quicker to reach your cap with my dear.

Cliffs:
Comcast central region customers should be seeing a speed bump in the near future if they're on the following tiers...

Performance (25Mbps -> 50Mbps)
Blast (50Mbps -> 105Mbps)
Extreme (105Mbps -> 305Mbps)

Pricing will remain the same for each tier (expect your usual bi-annual anal rapage). The current verbiage says triple- and double-play customers will be getting the bump. Standalone customers may or may not see it.

Major markets involved are Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, Miami, Nashville. Expect the rollout to happen as fast as the previous speed bump did (ie: it'll take forever and a day).

Usage caps at this time are NOT changing. Hope you all have your DOCSIS 3 modems handy.

I tried to get the extreme when I recently moved, and the lady kept trying to tell me it wasn't available in my area. Perhaps they were just preparing for the rollout.

Thankfully, I am a double-play customer now! Gettin' dat bump!

I think Comcast only has datacaps in effect in Phoenix as of now, so don't worry about hitting them (unless you're in Phoenix!).

God damn it! I moved last year to an area that Comcast isn't in. I'm stuck with AT&T Uverse and the internet is so god awful slow.

Fiber to the home and I'm stuck at 18 mbps. WTF is that stupid crap? Upgrade your shit AT&T!

I had Comcast with blast at my place before that for years and it was awesome. I could have been cruising at 105 mbps soon. UGH!

Sorry, I'm just a little upset.

My area has AT&T Uverse and Comcast overlap and it is rather funny to hear from the Uverse sales people that go around door to door. They tried to sell me once and claimed everyone gets an independent line to the pole and they just upgraded their network. My response was "you are offering me, for the same price, an inferior speed product WITH a datacap..." Yeah, let me jump right on that.

WRONG. Caps have been rolled out the the Nashville market, as well as several other markets as well. Thankfully I get nowhere near them, but when I do, I already have contacts at Comcast Business waiting to hook me up.

Wow, didn't know they had rolled them out to other areas as well. Chicago still doesn't have one, and the garbage 250gb a month is BS anyway. I believe the faster packages were supposed to have higher caps, but I'll have to check and see.

Woohoo!!!

AT&T isn't fiber to the home. They like to use the "F-word" as a marketing gimmick. It's really only their backbone that's fiber.
They have both fiber to the node and fiber to the premise. I have FTTP. I saw them dig and run the line. I'm stuck on BPON and who knows when the hell they will upgrade.

Comcast doesn't really enforce their 250 GB cap, so the point is moot there. I've heard that you now need to download at least 500 GB of data * on a residential connection before you get a nastygram from them.

* So, you basically need to be running a home file server and/or you're a pirate.

I'm not in central, but I should remember to call in and ask for a promotional rate on my service. HSI only customers get hosed - paying $75/month for Blast.

So your speed is doubled or tripled for the same price! Read that again, double to triple the speed for the SAME PRICE!

That's some SERIOUS network upgrades going on to improve customer experience and performance.

You'll be downloading a plenty
When you switch to Xfinity!

I'm on comcast business which is a double edged sword. On the upside there are no caps, or at least they're a lot higher than residential ones. On the downside it's a lot more expensive on per Mbit/s basis so I only subscribe to the lowest tier which is 16Mbps. Eventually comcast will upgrade business speeds as well, but it will take forever and it will probably come with a price increase as well. Oh how I wish we had actual competition

So I should get that bump... Not that I'll really notice a difference. I want to know the upload speeds, that's what matters. If that doubles too then heck yes!

Also someone mentioned it earlier, but on the higher tiers (I think 50+ speed) you get a whopping 100gb increase to 350gb on the cap, last I checked.

Yeah, I'm thrilled comcast lets us go from 5 miles an hour to 10 miles an hour when the rest of the world is cruising at 100..

Currently, I'm hitting just under 60 download and around 11 upload on the Blast. I don't think the upload will get bumped much.

So sad though because I am paying more than I was with Charter and getting less than half the speed I was with them on both up and down. =(

Sounds like we have the same service - I get about 57/12 consistently. With a bunch of HD channels, showtime & hbo though, I'm only paying $70/mo. I don't think that is terrible.

I could have their 305 Mbps service and I still wouldn't be able to watch Netflix at better than 480p. I think I'm going to have to "upgrade" to Frontier's DSL's 6Mbps so I can get decent Netflix picture quality again.

Currently, I am paying $99 + any additional costs (HBO, modem rental, tax) per month right now. =(

My previous condo had internet only and it was like $79 a month I believe.

Their pricing is probably different in different markets.

My Charter was must lower (around $65 a month after taxes) when I was in Alabama, but the services was absolutely amazing. I was averaging around 150 / 25 during peak hours.

And charging us dearly for the privledge.

I can't wait until they somehow try charging extra for Netflix traffic now that the network neutrality laws have basically been abolished. If anyone is going to try it, it would be a big cable company like them.

I get closer to 35 down already on the performance tier, and I don't have any other Comcast services.

Comcast is effectively throttling Netflix for a lot of us already. Comcast's forum is full of people bitching about it.

Dude I read that entire article and it made no sense to me. All that I maybe gathered is that Comcast refuses to peer with Netflix even though it is 0 cost to them, but it seems like the issue is because that gives Netflix permissions they don't want them to have.

I don't know though, ISP language is foreign to me.

Wonder if I'll finally see a speed jump. The last speed jump happened and I do have a DOCIS 3.0 modem (just replaced it) and never got higher speeds. :/

Since this seems like it will be in the north east I won't be expecting a speed jump. I head Denver was the guinea pig for new Comcast technologies. So I would expect a higher speed roll out here.

Here it is. http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/stories/2009/04/27/focus10.html?page=all

Nothing like being near the "mega router." HAHAHA
