I recently got a price increase notice from comcast (in bayarea) from 42.95 to $56 / month. $42.95 only if i switch to comcast basic cable. Called customer service and told them about yahoo dsl offer of $29.99 for one year package. the CSR offered me $19.99 /month for 6 months which i gladly took. I didnt have to switch even my cable TV service. I had attbi for more than a year now. not sure if that helped.

It didn't. $20/month for 6 months is just a promotional they're running right now. I got it and I just signed up.

I told them I was switching to Yahoo DSL for $29/month for one year. The best they offered me was 3 months at $25. I said "cancel me". Comcrap has to be one of the worst companies around. They have been double billing me since I've had them. I know it is hard to believe, but I have to spend 15-25 minutes on the phone with them every month. Last month they billed my credit card twice...they were getting their money one way or another. Now I have to contact my bank to get my money back. What waste of time.

On June 2 I'm switching to Verizon phone and DSL. I told Comcast this and their techs couldn't care less. I always though companies liked to keep their customers, but I guess in this case they don't. If anyone has gotten a deal recently to stay with Comcast let me know. I live in the Porltand, Oregon area.

Comcast is going to have to come up with more defensive moves like this in the future. DirecTV and Dish are getting permission to show local stations, and that means Comcast's basic cable biz is in trouble.

I just called Comcast in my area (Nashville) and told them I was thinking of switching to Yahoo DSL and they could'nt have cared less!!

They made no attempt whatsoever to keep me as a customer.

I only wish they would've never bought @Home. They were a great company with faster speeds and much cheaper prices, and never any outages.

SimpleTim: I have had Directv for 8 years, and have been able to get my local channels for at least 3 years. So it really pissed me off when comcast decided they needed to penalize me for not using their cable tv. That is why I'm switching to Verizon. The only reason I would stay with comcast is so that I don't have to change my phone number.

soundforbjt: @home was noted for outages, so you were very fortunate. AT&T staff reduced @home's problems during @home's last year, but never solved underlying problems because of politics.

I have Comcast, and haven't a DSL option (distance to central ofc?), or I'd explore that. However, I believe Comcast will reduce your rate even if you only have "Antenna Service" at ~$9/month. This service brings you the local stations over cable, plus CN8. I'm happy with that because my household computers ruin the broadcast signal out here in the boondocks (20 miles E of Philadephia), creating snow and/or patterns across TV screens w/o A.S.

The speeds for the $29 plan are 768 down 128 up. However, I'm only recieving about 500kb/s, they told me I'm too far from the switch-thingy-mabob.

I've been with Attbi for a year or so. I told Comcast I was switching to DSL and they asked what I wanted. They gave me the $19.95 deal. I'm in the SF Bay Area. That was two months ago. The $19.95 bills have been a great change from the $42.95 I was paying before.

I just got a call from Comcast yesterday about this but told them I wasn't interested. My cable goes out for a few hours once or twice a month, so why switch from Verizon DSL? Also I took advantage of the deal I learned about on this forum for the upgrade from Verizon to 1.5MB at the cheaper rate! Thanks for that post.

Comcast in Maryland has good service but their accounting and customer service is the pitts. I have had my own cable modem for nearly two years. In January this year they started charging me for a cable modem rental, $7.00 month plus tax. I called them right away and they said they would refund the difference. Got charged the following month also plus some credit but they did not back out all of the tax. Still trying to get them to correct. Also understand they do not do customer rentention. Read it on some other threads. If anyone has heard different let me know. I'm in Harford County.

Good think I have my Earthlink DSL, nary a problem aside from a brief outage or two, two years ago.

Comcast in Columbia, MD is great =)
I just moved here, and called the local rep to see what he could offer me.
I ended up getting DIGITAL cable + Internet service for $59.99/month. You can't beat that kind of deal anywhere. That includes rental of both the cable modem and the digital receiver. Deal lasts for 1 year.
So if you're moving somewhere or thinking about switching, try calling a sales rep, you'll get a better deal than you would get if you just called their main customer service #

Edit: Includes some of the HBOs as well.

Comcast is not cheap, but IMO they offer great service, at least in PA. You can get a seperate IP for $7/month which DSL and other cables usually do not ever offer, and I get 1500/256 which is pretty damn nice.

PapaSmurf where do you live. When I talked to the customer service people they just kept saying that they will never change anyones pricing. They told me if they let one person get a deal then they must let everyone. I told them I know of a ton of people that got lower rates. Then they just repeated to me that its impossible to lower it.

Thats when you tell them that you know they're lying through their teeth, hang up and try another rep.

I am in Howard County, MD and I just changed the Comcast digital cable to the $12/month limited service package. The CS only offerred $29.99/month for me to continue subscripting to digital cable. Only if I can get dsl (too far from a central office) I would promptly cancel the Comcast internet. Whenever the weather changes, the connection acts up.

If comcast told you to go jump off a cliff I'm sure you would do that too right??? That is a DEAL!!! I think you should buy a couple more!

7 bucks for another IP? What the hell for? Go buy a router and get 1000 virtual IP's. You think your going to get a faster connection with a seperate IP? Think again! Your on the same pipe. Your gonna get the same speed regardless. Oh well, I suppose it's people like you that will sign up for the Newsgroup Service. Comcast isn't providing a news server so they are out sourcing it.

Anyway, I am on comcast and if I was not getting a promo deal I guess I still would be on it since I am too far out to get DSL, Tho, I get about 2-3 megs down & 256K Up. But what is really nuts my friend that lives about 5 miles from me gets ultra crappy speeds and pretty sad ping rates. Tho, I noticed that he doesn't have a comcast van parked on the next block. I guess it helps to have a tech in your neighborhood.

I think it's pathetic they can get away with charging people 60 bucks for internet sevice and then racking them with a cable bill weather they like it or not. I think that the dish is the only way to fly. The picture and sound blow away comcrap or any cable service. I'd be using dish internet if the latency wasn't so bad. If I could get away from comcast I would but for now my speeds are super nice and can't really seay when I've had an outage. But it never really changed from ATT days except they are charging more. AND forcing you to pay for basic cable weather you want it or not witch is SOOO wrong. Not to mention making it very sad for not even giving you a news group server. I am wondering if you will get the same amount of server space? Time will tell but, Comcrap is already in the red. It's most likly just a matter of time before they fail and ATT will have to bail them out.

Hi Cassius, I live in Southern Ca. I will be watching my bill to make sure that they follow through. The person I spoke to was a sales rep.
