I have to vent. I pay for the premium high speed internet service and the past week my internet has been dragging and slow. I have changed channels on my router thinking it was just cable congestion since I live in an high rise apartment. Now I try to get onto their official website, and is can't connect, or it tries to connect or reroute to a wwb.comcast site. I called them and they said that they were having issues with their site. They said my internet connection for all other activities should be fine. I can barely download anything it is so sluggish.

Sorry, I just have to vent on this. I wish Comcast and AT&T could be broken up so there were more competitors to choose from , but they are like the only game in town.

Sigh..

My mother lives in an apartment complex and she has Comcast for internet. You can barely use it if someone else is on a laptop or something. She does have the regular service but still sucks. I have their business class internet and its not as fast as some people who have the 20mb line by bundling. Mine is 16 but most times its a lot faster. With the business class I've never had many issues except for when I first bought my own router to use on the service.

I have the 20mb bundled package, but I don't get 20mb. This has to be the umpteenth time that I couldn't get on their official website either. Can't view my account, pay a bill.. crimeny. I think they have some serious issues, and I am really starting to think I should just go back to AT&T, but honestly they aren't much better either.

Honestly, these sound much more like issues with your wireless connection than issues with Comcast's service.

After I switched to using my own modem (Motorola SB6121), there was one time when my Internet just went to complete crap. Speedtests showed that it was operating at around dial-up speeds. I hadn't gotten around to returning my older Comcast-provided modem yet, so I hooked that up and everything was fine. A few days later, I put my modem back in, and it worked fine. I still don't know what was up with it!

Seriously though think of all the porn you are missing while it's so slow.

You have WiFi congestion

Switch to a 5Ghz channel only and try different channels with net stumbler.

Hack your router to increase the output power.

Or, use a fricking CAT6 cable like anybody who actually cares about network reliability.

If you had a problem at your node, hundreds of customers would be calling in and they would tell you about it when you call.

Guess its just residential service that sucks. I have 3 sites that use business cable lines, and they've not gone down or slowed down noticeably in a year now. May just depend on regions and how new their network is in those locations.

Um, maybe for certain customers, sure, but certainly not something you can blanket apply. I have good service, and usually speed test >20Mbps downstream and 4-5Mbps upstream.

This has probably been mentioned, but have you tried upgrading to dual-band equipment? In an apartment there's going to be 2.4 congestion from everywhere... other wifi, bluetooth, RF are all on 2.4. I had nothing but problems in my apartment until I switched to 5GHz equipment. Then things were actually quick and had proper range.

Now that I'm in a house it seems like my router range in general is huge in comparison, and my 2.4GHz only devices no longer have any issues (and I'm on comcast as well)

Update* I and many others in my apartment were having same issues. This morning Comcast customer service said they were receiving calls on the problem. Anyway, as of now it seems to be working fine. Back to normal now.

One weird thing, last night, the customer service reps kept telling me that there was some issue with browsers, and that I needed to use one of the browsers listed on their site. I already use chrome, so I told them I didn't think that was the issue.

Anyway, I still hate Comcast..lol

Still wish we could break these big companies up and have more to choose from.

I wonder if they are just trying to get too many customers per repeater? I have noticed that my Charter cable, while still fast, slows down more in the early evening hours than it used to.

has comcast ever not sucked?

Their cable and streaming content services don't do anything for me, but there's nothing wrong with their broadband services that isn't wrong with all cableco broadband services in the U.S., i.e. they have no competition and are too expensive. Otherwise they've been fast and very reliable for us for ten years now.
