I'm in Nashville, TN. To check for the speed increase, I had always been choosing the closest server in the list at
http://www.dslreports.com/stest?more=1
Using Cookeville, TN (97 road miles from me) server,
http://cookeville.speedtest.frontiernet.net
2003-12-18 22:27:58 EST: 1702 / 89
Your download speed : 1702293 bps, or 1702 kbps.
A 207.7 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 89365 bps, or 89 kbps.
Today:
2004-02-21 10:45:57 EST: 2026 / 87
Your download speed : 2026368 bps, or 2026 kbps.
A 247.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 87241 bps, or 87 kbps.
2004-02-21 11:13:15 EST: 1744 / 87
Your download speed : 1744292 bps, or 1744 kbps.
A 212.9 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 87202 bps, or 87 kbps.
But, I also tried
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest today.
Using Atlanta, GA (265 road miles) server,
http://atl.speakeasy.net
2004-02-21 10:55:33 EST: 3136 / 213
Your download speed : 3136942 bps, or 3136 kbps.
A 382.9 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 213812 bps, or 213 kbps.
So did I possibly already have the speed increase in the first test in Dec? If the Cookeville server is that bad, especially considering it's much closer to me, what good is it for speed tests? It shouldn't be in the dslreports list.
