I'd settle for the old 1.5GB Comcast digital, my little town in Central Coastal CA doesn't have any to offer, so I am lucky I guess to get Verizon DSL at 768/128 (ex GTE).

Hmmm... Oregon is not listed.
I wonder if I should expect an upgrade any time soon?

Does anyone know where the original list is located? I'm hoping they will provide this upgrade to all their regions.

I am in Chattanooga. It said expected roll-out was 12/30/03.
But I already got it a week ago!
Yah.

Anyone has an idea as to how I can get Comcast to charge me less than $45? Or, is it pretty usual for them to "forget" to raise prices after promotional period?

Adelphia is wonderful, had powerlink for at least a year now, speeds around 400kB/sec all the time.

The upload is the crap end of the stick though, 128k/bit.

I'm located in west Texas city with around 90K people and we've had Cox 3Mbit down/256K up for 6+ months now. It's nice to see the rest of the country upgrading their network.

Your download speed : 3375215 bps, or 3375 kbps.
A 412 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 256016 bps, or 256 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

OC12 = 622Mbps

most likely you'll use a PC, which will have a NIC (10/100) - most likely 100Mbps, which you share with thousands of other students ... go figure!

EDIT: I am near the Dallas area and no speed increase yet.. Heard about this over 6 months ago and can't wait (if it ever comes here)...

What's this grandfather clause and how does it work? I thought I was stuck with a crappy 1 GB per month from the the comcast giganews server, unless I pay more. I want my unlimited attbi usenet back!!!

SenorBiggles:

If you were an earlier ATTBI customer, try setting up your newsreader with "netnews.comcast.net" as the server.

I'm in central CT and haven't noticed any difference (other than the upcoming price boost). The real crimp is the upload cap, which throttles back bit torrent transfers.

Question:
1) Can an existing Comcast cable internet customer still go thru Staples and get the $150 rebate and 3 months at $19.99?

If not: any suggestion on how to get CS to lower monthly rate?

Thanks.

It happened here in MD about 3 weeks ago, I love it! Now only if they could raise the upstream comcast would be perfect!

The schedule Comcast has out for the upgrade is not official. They are doing upgrades on a per node basis. Central Jerz was suppsed to be done by now, but they haven't gotten around to the node I'm on. Either way, the dl cap cable modem companies are putting is total BS. IMO, cable modem providers are trying to get as many ppl as they can while they know they can't handle all of the users. Even though comcast is raising the speed from 1.5 to 3, IMO its a competition thing with DSL so they can get more customers by saying they are faster then DSL...best bang for the buck.

I'm in Wisconsin and our charter servive was recently upgraded to 3mbps.

(Please don't take this as a nod towards Charter. I think they suck compared to my last ISP--TimeWarner. On RR, I could actually use the newsgroups and they didn't block every port known to man. And their smtp server didn't mysterious stop working intermittently.)

TimeWarner just upgraded their service to 3mbps as well. I thought I read on DSLReports.com that SBC was doing it as well. It seems like providers are pretty much either raising to 3mbps or losing customers in droves.... Go capitalism! LOL!

Phila Metro, PA 12/01/03 -

Yup...just about right .

Amazing, considering that Comcast's main market is Philadelphia and people have had the speeds for two months already.
