just read about the upgrade in the grand rapids press. unplugged the power from my cable modem for 60 seconds, plugger 'er back in, and i had 3.0 goodness. :beer:

I tried power cycling my modem last night and not only haven't they increased the speed yet, but my internet is at rediculously low speeds right now (250 kbps). What's up with that?

I'm in the Chicago area btw.. Anyone else in the Chicago area experiencing anything similar? Anyone get the power increase yet?

I think I might get comcast, I never was able to get dsl because the "wiring" in my house is too old(good thing cable runs through a seperate line right?). From what I have seen on the website, it is cheaper if you get the basic cable + internet for 51 bucks a month. Just wondering, are there taxes on cable? What is the price I will see on my bill?

Removed all the comcast junks as soon as I activated the account.

I'm a bit worried... all these power yet so many limitation:
1. no personal servers -whatever
2. no protection from RIAA

I've two months to decide.

I live in Reading, Pa. 55 miles north and west of Phila..

Last night around 3am they seemed to finish the network upgrade.

The 3mbps is now active.

Nice and speedy that is for sure.

Yup, same here. I'm out in the NW burbs. Powered cycle modem and nothing. The speed has been slower recently. Maybe Comcast is doing the upgrade currently?

This slow internet is pissing me off! I had a couple of days of outage earlier this month and now the slow speeds. If Comcast wants to keep increasing rates and do a crappier job with their service, I'm going to have to be calling them and nagging for credit for days that their service sucks.

Off to power cycle again. I can't stand these dial up speeds I'm getting tonight.

comcast was doing upgrade to other city 40 min drive but affects me and I don't get the upgrade. I had had outages and unstable connections for the past 30 days, and I got nothing except suffering.

damn comcast in the chicago suburbs sucks. Its been running really really slow so i went on the comcast site and talked to some sales rep and they said that all of illinois was experencing problems, and they didnt know when it would be back to normal (1.5mbits). Just did the speed test...

its been around 30 but really slow right now, just over the modem mark. Also, my modem has been flashing wildly all day so dont know whats up with that, hopefully this means that there in the process of upgrading the speeds.

rep: Customers may experience slow speed/intermittent connection in IL and IN
me: any idea when it will be back to normal?
me: or is it from them upgrading it to 3mbits?
rep: i am checking.
rep: the only information we have at this time is that the issue is being investigated already but no further info available at this time.

Looks like I'm in the good connection area. Yeah, they haven't upgraded me yet, but the only time I've ever lost the connection was because of power failures.

I think maybe a total of one lost week in the last 3 years
