Gracias. That seemed to do the trick. Funny that they never let me know about that when they switched over to comcast. Now to test to see if it really is unlimited.

Maryland: Mine went up a week or so ago. Speeds have been very nice. Uploads still suck but what can you do.

They've also forgotten to take off my 35$ campaign discount that was only supposed to last for the first three months, and in the letter stating they were upgrading to 3.0 they said my discount was over, but alas after two months its still there...15 bucks for 3.0 Mbps aint too shabby

Did you have to power cycle your modem? I'm in Mobile, too; I'm just now reading this news. I haven't done a speed test lately.

i'm in NW PA and we don't even have comcast

Pittsburghs got it, Buffalos got it, Clevlands got it, Torontos got it across the lake... but, alas, Erie PA has Adelphia only, and wicked high rates.

Mine in delaware just went up. Sucked when comcast took over. I used to have @ home and used to get 6000 down and 1200 up.

Then comcast came and capped @ 1200down and 128 up. At least they are back to half of what i had.

Yes, you do need to power cycle the modem to see the change. I saw the upgrade here in Richmond, VA about 2 weeks or so ago.

most likely you'll use a PC, which will have a NIC (10/100) - most likely 100Mbps, which you share with thousands of other students ... go figure!

You aren't sharing your NIC with thousands of other people!!!

woah. Comcast upgraded mine already (i think)...

results from two different tests

Communications 3.5 megabits per second
Storage 433.1 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 2.4 seconds

Your download speed : 3351382 bps, or 3351 kbps.
A 409.1 KB/sec transfer rate.

i'm currently downloading Sp1a from microsoft at 400kb/sec, will post screen when it finishes...

i'm Walnut Creek (bay area) btw... 5 days ahead of schedule!!

Didn't have to power cycle, i just noticed it about an hour ago

I have a friend who lives in Arcola, IL who has his downloads delivered to his house by an Amish guy with a horse drawn cart.

I live near Washington DC and my speed increased over a month ago.
They sent out an email today notifying customers.

You have to unplug your modem for atleast 1 minute so it can reset itself.

For all the Bay Area people -

I saw an article in the Chronicle the other day that said SF, N. Bay, Central Contra Costa, and Tri-Valley areas are slated for 3Mbps on 12/16. Does anyone know about other parts of the Bay Area? I live in Castro Valley, which one one of the original @Home test neighborhoods starting in 1996 and had a solid 3-4Mbps till attbi took over from @Home. I sure hope I'm included, and lumped together with one of those other areas, or else I'll be pretty mad!

Speaking of mad, does anyone else get mad when they see those stupid Comcast commercials on tv where they say how they're always looking to make their Internet service so much faster, and all that crap... if they really meant that, we should be at 45Mbps like S. Korea--not going back to the original 3Mbps which we had almost 8 years ago! :disgust:

i signed up with SBC yahoo DSL promotion they had a while back.. and its almost up..

Southern NJ - ~$43/month, not counting taxes etc...

Unplugged my modem when I first read this @ about 4:30pm. No increase in speed yet, as tested at
several bandwidth test sites, and from a D/L from a site I D/L from frequently.

Man, this will be awesome. I often D/L at 200-300kbs, can't see what I get after.

And, I was thinking of dropping comcast, going back to dial up. Not Now!

Your download speed : 2708779 bps, or 2708 kbps.
A 330.6 KB/sec transfer rate.

You won't get much much more difference after......because you are definitely hoovering around 3 Mbit/s if you are getting 300kbs+....

Nope!

I wish that were true. The fact is that Comcast has a secret download limit that they don't tell anyone. They will just suspend service right out of the blue if you download too much.

CNet article

Plus there's a 1Gb limit on newsgroup downloads.....$11.95 a month extra if you want to raise it to 12Gb

Just got my Comcast Holiday card in the mail. They mention that the upgrade is coming and while I am waiting I can keep enjoying the $14.00 per month special discount through April 2004. I called them last July saying I was going to DSL because Comcast was too high and they immediately dropped my price down. Now I think that was a nice present!

(I live in SoCal.)
