Comcast Xfiniy Router advice.

Hi folks i have a rented wireless TG862,see link bellow

I want to get my own router and get rid of the 10 bucks+tax a month but i want it with just Internet+phone modem combo i actually have my own wireless router that i use cause the Tg862 doesn't work right with most of old wireless pc with win xp and Ubuntu,i'm checking out if this router see bellow link;if this is any good,or is there a better and reliable router with same characteristics that i can get a better internet cable connect for streaming live tv in high definition on my PC and android tv box,thanks

alrighty, I'll take a stab at this.

1. You want to use the CM500V as your cable and VOIP device for Comcast - check, it's on the approved list, and it's not some offbeat brand. It will likely be a solid device.

On the topic of using your own modem. If there are problems with it, you will need to spend time on the phone with Comcast, and possibly have a spare modem to try. The onus is on you if all their tests pass.

Sounds like you already have a router to use.

2. Win XP? dude...

3. Ubuntu - what version? I've not really had a problem with various versions in the last few years and a wireless network connection.

Overall, I do the same thing, I also have a spare modem just in case I need it.

thanks ch33zw1z: after a bit of thought and search for the best router i decided buy this router see link billow; but now i have an issue to connect to Comcast internet,i did call Comcast and activated the router,they say that they activated it and i can get all the led lights on from led but no internet no pages where to be found,but i have telephone though , i tried on all with my win 10 PC's and win 8 and still the same,i've been struggling with Comcast personnel back and forth
and no solution so far,they want to send a tech over but it takes a few days to get here,meanwhile no internet,any you guys have this router Gears Nightawk AC1900, model#C7100V that you can give me a hand,maybe there has to be an issue with the Computers configuration that needs to be changed,since the auto repair and auto configure can't deal with it,i would appreciate if you could give a hand,,thanks.

Please post the make and model of the modem and router that you're currently trying to use with Comcast.

thanks i 've got NetGears Nightawk AC1900, model#C7100V comcast and i struggled to get it to connect to the internet , it's a great machine but i have an issue my 2 android tv boxs seem not to connect with hard cable, it says it's connected but no connection and wireless some times connects some doesn't,do you know if i need to make any configurations and how in the router to have the Android tv boxes running?thanks

Did you work with comcast to provision it? They ask for hardware id's from the modem...

THanks ch33zw1z; i infect had a hard to have it provisioned,i couldn't do it by myself cause the help from the CS and Techs was none,they know less than me,and because i'm kinda savvy on these things i kinda made them to send a person right away to my house to solve the issue,also since i had upgraded my speed from 25MBPS to 100MBPS,and their rented TG 862 ct router went crazy with so much speed,so the guys was gonna change their router to a better one and i would send the Netgear Nighthawk 1900 C7100V back to the store but fortunately the tech and i were able to get it running ,

Also i had issues with my android tv boxes to connect to internet wireless and ethernet cable ,but fortunately i was able to get them running with wireless 5GHZ by unplugging the Ethernet hard cable,but still don't understand why they don't run on the ethernet hard cable, not that i need it but they worked before with the old TG862 with cable and wireless.

Make sure to get a receipt from Comcast that you returned their modem, remember where you keep it. Did that last year and I have to complain to them since I'm still being billed that $10 rental fee. Found a used TC8305C $4.99+tax at a local thrift shop had it activated and provisioned in a few minutes.
