Anyways, I got Cox's Premier 'upgraded' service, similar to comcast's, and the speed is always smoking over their limit.

Heh what's funny is now Comcast is finally getting to to the speeds I used to have back in 1998. I was getting roughly 7-8Mbps when I was with @Home. They started capping the speeds though when they went to AT&T.

I signed up for this, spent 60mins on the phone with clueless support. They supposedly they upgraded me, I rebooted modem numerous times but there is absolutely no speed increase for me. So apparently they didn't do it.

fill out the order form and keep going through the steps. eventually you get to live chat where they upgrade you with no phone call needed.

Well, actually I don't have home telephone service so I can't get FIOS on that, but I can easily add it and have FIOS.... Ugh...

I have FIOS and do not have verizon phone service. I have Vonage as my home phone. In my area (Harrisburg, PA) I could save about $5 per month if I had local w/ Verizon, but I had the same savings if I agreed to a 1 year contract.

Sidenote, the tech guy asked if I knew that verzion offered VOIP services, to which I reply yes. I explained that I would change to verzion as soon as their VOIP rates were closer to Vonage's rates.

Read above, people just needed to reset thier existing modem to get it.

I'll mention this since I didn't see it.. I have their Silver or Gold tier service for an extra 10.. I get 6mbit 768.. well they've went through another upgrade cycle and California doesn't have the upgrades yet.. but I'm supposed to be at 8mbit..when they complete the upgrades. If I could get 8mbit and free gamespy I'd jump on the deal as it'd save me a few bux.

Around my parts, Roadrunner works fine at near advertised speeds, but they don't offer anything exciting. Standard is $35/mo and about 5MB down and 384k up. "Premier" or whatever they call the up-package is 8MB down but only a measly 512k up, for about $82/mo!!! Sad to say but I actually miss Adelphia where I used to live. Sure, they had four months of crappy service, but then they fixed their stuff and I had $62/mo for 6MB down and 768k up, and my uploads were peaking near 110KB, which is nearly 900k. With Roadrunner's 384k I should get around 48KB but never get more than about 43KB. I miss my Adelphia Premier.

Well, here we go. Once more I'm on the phone with them saying that I don't actually have the speed upgrade even though they say I do. I'm downloading the 100meg test file in 2mins 22secs, which is the old slower speed.

If you are a gamer, IGN has like strategy guides, videos, etc that you can only see if you are a member. Last E3 they had a bunch of E3 booth babe pics only for members. Personally I think the fileplanet membership is better. You can d/l stuff like demos at very fast speeds and no waits. But the best part is the exclusive betas they get into. Just recently they had a beta... I think it was the matrix MMORPG beta you could join for free. Anyway, its decent if you are a gamer, if not its not all that important.

I can't get it. It says it's available online, and I've went through the process once earlier this week and again tonight. Both of them said they didn't have access to get me the discount or whatever and to call 1800 Comcast. So I called tonight and the woman, who was supposedly speaking to here tech supervisor or something, said the promotion isn't actually active yet and it's only through a glitch in the server that it shows you can get it. She said there was everything I needed to know about Game Invasion @ comcast.net, but it doesn't have anything but the phone # on it.

Ugh......guess I'll call back early next week.
