Type 1 is an autoimmune disease.
Autoimmune diseases are not caused by immunodeficiency. They are related, as in they are both caused by similar or the same genetic traits. If you have an immunodeficiency, you are more likely to have an auto immune disease. Just like if you have one auto immune disease, you are more likely to have or develop an immunodeficiency or more auto immune diseases. Because you have active genetic traits making you susceptible to these pathologies.
Unless you're admitting you have HIV/AIDS. In which case it's not the immunodeficiency, but the havoc that it wreaks on your immune system, particularly when you are treating HIV.
