This is a trigger point for me. Insulin is $300/bottle making it one of the most expensive liquids in the world. Theres NO reason for it! I can can go to almost any country i.e. Canada, Mexico...and get it for $50/bottle. Who pays the most for prescriptions in the world? Thats right. The USA. Here in AZ I like Sinema, but her marriage to the pharma industry infuriates me. I dont understand how we cant get this fixed. It started with Obamacare, which mostly benefitted the healthcare industry, and has progressively gotten worse. This isnt a D or R problem, its a people problem.

Pro-pharma Democrats kill bill to lower drug costs — advocates ask: “What did they get for that?” (msn.com)
It’s definitely primarily a Republican problem, as after all we have about 48 or so democratic senators for it so if we could get even two republicans to support it such a bill will pass. Republicans uniformly oppose this though so we can’t.

That being said you’re right it isn’t UNIFORMLY a Republican problem and it’s pure corruption. The idea that the government is actively prohibiting itself from trying to get good value for taxpayer dollars is absolute stupidity.

Just to remind you, Trump himself claimed he wanted to tackle drug costs while Rs controlled both houses of congress. Nothing happened from Trump or congress. This most certainly is a problem of greed and self interest. So basically a problem for 100% of Republicans and 1 or 2 democrats.

Lest we forget his big beautiful Healthcare plan, en toto, which we never saw despite control of both houses and the presidency. The same one he said we needed to re-elect him to see.

lol, "not an R or D problem." These fucking idiots.

You may be shocked to learn that this Trump guy says a lot of things he doesn’t mean.

I can't get my medication
I can't afford to cover the cost
I have huge medical bills.

Democratic party members - > The ideal solution for this would be a single payer system. We have a complete roadmap for a way forward.

Republican party members - > Power of prayer.

This is not a R or D problem.

Democratic Party - > You fuckers remember the 2000's? You fucker remember the teens. Perhaps you should watch reruns of Foxnews programs to help you remember.

Republican party members - > May the lord protect you from the keyword. For thy lady uterus must be protected from the socialism as then thy innards shall drop from thy body with the diseased child of an illegal immigrant Hispanic like what happens in Canada everyday. Where Christian children are no longer born!!!

This is not a R or D problem. Something needs to be done about all this. Perhaps magic money from the mail box could be just for my insulin. Maybe magic money could be a checkbox on tax forms specifically for insulin!!

Democratic party members - > It's complicated but our solution will solve that. We've been studying this for decades. We understand both the short term and long term risks and have a very good idea of the impacts....

Republican party members - > Tax cuts will fix it and then you can use the extra money to pay for the insulin. PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

I hate taxes!!!! I don't want my money going to the government!!

Investors for private Insurance sector, drug companies, private hospitals - > Yeah. That should come straight to us. I have a better idea. Invest in us and then you can use the profits to pay for insulin!!!
Republican party members - > BINGO!!!!!

Democrats have held power twice since making it a centerpiece of their message and haven’t done it either time. I think it’s very fair to blame them for not following through. While doing so though we should note the other party is in lockstep opposition to the idea.

at least in the current term, 50+1 is not *actually* holding power. if you have 55-60 - then you can actually get shit done.

can't speak to the obama years though as i wasn't really paying much attention at the time (or prior to that)

No.
First
The issue the first go around was that the legislative branch is (or at least was prior to Mitch McConnell) a deliberative, collaborative body. In 2009 there was still the idea that "we should work together". Republican opposition is what happened

Second.

Remember back in the early 2000's when it was all so simple?
Democrats would propose health care reform.
Republicans would just say "tort reform" over and over again and claim the only reason why things are expensive are "All these lawsuits!!!"

Then Obama got elected and Clintons name was spoken so republicans jumped onto the old favorites of keyword soup

Don't forget it was a republican passed law in 2003 or so that specifically banned Medicare from negotiating drug prices. They say the quiet parts out loud and they still get voted in, primarily on social issues, like hating gays and minorities

This is 99% a republican issue with a 2% dem problem. And that 2% Dem problem would be moot if the Senate wasn't stacked with small state regressives and the house wasn't capped at 435 or whatever and gerrymandering was banned. Again, to make it more just which would mean less GQP is and more Dems.

This is ALMOST uniformly an R v D issue in government

Ah, yes. The old "Only Democrats have any agency in Government" argument trotted out by the BothSidesDoIt™ morons who've been trained real fucking well to think exactly how their handlers have trained them to think.

Let's recap.

90%+ of Senate Democrats support Medicare drug price negotiation
90%+ of House Democrats support Medicare drug price negotiation

0 Senate Republicans support Medicare drug price negotiation
0 House Republicans support Medicare drug price negotiation

But, again it's the Democrats who are stopping Medicare drug price negotiation, because Republicans are not held accountable for their votes by their braindead fucking base voters, and because everyone already knows that they are not allowed to vote against however the Party tells them to vote anyway.

I never, ever, said that. Nor do I disagree.

OP knows full well his team is the one holding back the price drops. OP posts a story that has zero to do with that and focuses on one DINO who certainly now, literally, the new champion of the rabid right wing but we are supposed to care about a right winger and their personal choices to get adult onset diabetes? Work on that BMI and lay off the sweets.

Too bad independents dont have a voice. Ive never stated, nor have I thought, Democrats are the problem here. What I meant by this isnt a GOP or Dem issue but a people one, what I meant was this shouldnt be politicized. Never once have I blamed Democrats for anything related to this. Ever. If you are reading that into my comments, thats your own twisted brain trying to put words in my mouth.

That's like me saying I want a steak but driving to a vegetarian restaurant.

A friend I game with a ton has that. He likes to joke "he's faster at dying than anyone" but really a good friend.

He's over in MI and he's glad they got their head out of their asses and passed the insulin price cap law..

BTW I am not from AZ.. but I too am pretty pissed off with Sinema. Life, Liberty and Pursuit of happiness.. should cover healthcare, freedom from drug monopolies and extortion. Just vote the hobag out for someone that votes for the medical care that you need instead of big pharma.

Yes many states have passed maximum insulin prices. But we need it nationally.
