was "power regulators" issue in 7900 GT (KO) already fixed?

NCIX

why, so many complains about 7900s all over the net?
is it realy so bad Q product?

I was about to buy 7900GT KO, but now after reading all that I don't know ...

Could it be ATI "marketing"? doesn't look like as so many ppl wrote that on so many sites.

Why 7900 GT fails in the first 2-3 days? Ppl push OC to much?
If that uses < 60W then why 400W PSU is req?

ChisSoxFan, when you get your card let us know how it goes. I know not everyone is having problems, but I do think it is weird how many people are just changing from a 7800 to a 7900 and getting mountains of hardships.

As for everyone else who has this card and does not have problems, please give system specs and drivers running. Maybe we can weed out what hardware is responsible.

For those who are having trouble, how many have done a clean reinstallation of XP with the new card?

Oh, and is this just a problem with EVGA 7900's or other manufacturer's as well?

I got my setup-up eVGA 7900GTX about a 1.5 weeks ago and haven't had a single issue. Using coolbits, it auto-detects up to ~700/1800 and rarely breaks 50C.

What are you're specs?

In my experience, this isn't just an EVGA 7900 problem.

I got a XFX 7900GTX from DELL, and I could tell that it had already been opened before, but I installed it anyway. Turns out it was probably someone elses RMA that someone in the distribution chain thought was "just fine."

It ran 3dMark ok and was fine in 2D, but when taxed (I was mostly playing DDO) it began having lockup and crash issues. I tried using different drivers (and yes, I used a driver cleaner) and the problem would not go away.

I was coming from an XFX 7800GT that is ROCK SOLID, so this was a huge let down.

I've returned the card to Dell, and have endured 3 shipping delays since for an exchange. At this point, I think I'm just going to cancel the order and stick with my 7800GT until the next gen DX10 part comes along.

I've lost a lot of confidence in Dell (for sending me an open box item) and Nvidia (after seeing how many people are having problem with this gen.) I'll probably be looking at ATI next if they can get their power consumption and noise down to respectable levels.

Well, well, well. So now that a major Hardware site had addressed the issue, I wonder if certain people will still say its FUD and trolling.

Oh, wait....uh....I mean.....

I had some evga 7800GT's and they overclocked like MAD. But, I also loved my XFX 6600GT, and since they offer the double lifetime warranty, it doesn't matter if their quality is or isn't as good as Asus since they overclock well, you can buy them used once and still be covered, and if the quality ever fails (meaning if the card does break) you can send it in for a replacement.

Well finally my step-up 7900gtx card has arrived and was installed in my AMD gaming rig last night. Here are my initial assesments after 4-5 hrs of usage:

Driver: 84.25 (unsigned 64 bit) from Nvidia
Window: x64 Pro Edition

3dmark05 cut out at second game at loading. Reason: unknown but it could be driver related.
3dmark06 did not fare any better...Shut the system down completely in the middle of the second or 3rd game. Reason: same as above.

FEAR - played on and off for at least 1 hr. No artifacts of any kind whatsoever. Otherwise it ran perfect!
HL2:LC - completed the entire episode. The settings were literally maxed out and the game itself ran perfect. The game's details/colors/graphics were absolutely the best I've seen.
Far Cry: played ~45 minutes w/o any problem otherwise it was as good as it could get.
Oblivion: Tried both BLOOM & HDR and played ~ 1hr. No problem in game.

At this point I must say that it 's way too early to make any kind of conclusion or verdict whether the card is already encountering issues. Will be testing out some more over time .

Well, here's somebody that actually listen to their readers: http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTA2OSwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==

That was a good read, and I like they way they handled it. No finger pointing, and they let all the involved parties say their bit. The one thing I take away from this is the value of a good warrantee that is backed by a good company.

so, it's tight to TWO:
BFG & eVGA that stand for the product and provide REAL warranty.

right?

Keeping my fingers crossed when my MSI 7900GTX arrives next Thursday. If I read sooner about these issues, I probably would not have placed my order.

Does anyone think the GTX issues (not OCing well) have anything to do with pressure to compete with the x1900 series. My thought process is they clocked higher than they should have maybe to make sure it could match the x1900xt/xtx. I have no idea if this is true and I don't have either card just curious as to whether people think this is a reason that vendors can't make really solid factory OCed cards.

I think most of the problems are occuring with the factory OC'ed 7900GTs, and not the GTX. Since the GT and the GTX share the same core, the manufacturers are most likely assuming that they can all run solidly at GTX speeds when this doesn't appear to the case. None of the factory OC'ed GTXs are clocked all that high above NIVIDIA spec compared to what the GTs are clocked above spec.
