The day after President Trump asked James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director, to end an investigation into his former national security adviser, Mr. Comey confronted Attorney General Jeff Sessions and said he did not want to be left alone again with the president, according to current and former law enforcement officials.

Mr. Comey believed Mr. Sessions should protect the F.B.I. from White House influence, the officials said, and pulled him aside after a meeting in February to tell him that private interactions between the F.B.I. director and the president were inappropriate. But Mr. Sessions could not guarantee that the president would not try to talk to Mr. Comey alone again, the officials said.

Mr. Comey did not reveal, however, what had so unnerved him about his Oval Office meeting with the president: Mr. Trump’s request that the F.B.I. director end the investigation into the former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, who had just been fired. By the time Mr. Trump fired Mr. Comey last month, Mr. Comey had disclosed the meeting to a few of his closest advisers but nobody at the Justice Department, according to the officials, who did not want to be identified discussing Mr. Comey’s interactions with Mr. Trump and Mr. Sessions.

...

Comey covered all the bases.

Top intelligence official told associates Trump asked him if he could intervene with Comey on FBI Russia probe

https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...a-810pm:homepage/story&utm_term=.76e822b70929

The nation’s top intelligence official told associates in March that President Trump asked him if he could intervene with then-FBI Director James B. Comey to get the bureau to back off its focus on former national security adviser Michael Flynn in its Russia probe, according to officials.

On March 22, less than a week after being confirmed by the Senate, Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats attended a briefing at the White House together with officials from several government agencies. As the briefing was wrapping up, Trump asked everyone to leave the room except for Coats and CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

The president then started complaining about the FBI investigation and Comey’s handling of it, said officials familiar with the account Coats gave to associates. Two days earlier, Comey had confirmed in a congressional hearing that the bureau was probing whether Trump’s campaign coordinated with Russia during the 2016 race.

[Inside Trump’s anger and impatience — and his sudden decision to fire Comey]

After the encounter, Coats discussed the conversation with other officials and decided that intervening with Comey as Trump had suggested would be inappropriate, according to officials who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive internal matters.

This is literally exactly what Nixon resigned over. This is it. --exactly--

In the 1970's the Republican Party was willing to put the country before the party and remove a criminal president who was attacking the foundations of the rule of law. It's a sick, sad statement on the rot inside the GOP that they aren't even close to that now.

They got even more degenerates in the gop now than then with the southern strategy & all, so good luck with that. Trump can be conclusively revealed to be some serial pedophile tomorrow to no one's suprise, and you'll have roflmouth and even chucky making a special comeback along with the rest of their syphocants to proudly defend conservative honor.

Now Comey has something in common with the females of this country, heh.

It's OK James, you're safe here. Among friends. Did he break out TicTacs? Was that blown kiss after the election more of a promise than a thank you? It's ok. It's not your fault. It's not your fault James.

Yes, but Coates will never admit to that in his testimony tomorrow. He still works for Trump. He'll probably decline to comment on all of his conversations with Trump.

I agree. The same with the CIA director. Both are Trump appointees. I don't expect they'll lie to cover for him, just refuse to answer. If things reach a tipping point though, they'll likely speak up in order to save themselves to remain under Pence while Trump gets shown the door.

"Former FBI Director Comey, using this doll here will you please show the court where the President fondled you in an attempt to win you over so you would shut down any investigations?"

It must be so disheartening for these intelligence and law enforcement professionals who have been operating and dedicating their lives and serving at the highest levels of their profession to have first hand experience to the ineptness and apparent moral bankruptcy of the administration in dealing with this.

I just want to know what the hell it's going to take before our resident Trump-fluffers admit their own degeneracy. This place is starting to make me feel like my soul needs a shower. In phenol.

Let's say you get your wish and they admit whatever it is you mean by "degeneracy"? What happens then? What will that change? Will you then feel vindicated and/or a sense of superiority?

I've read many comments similiar to yours and I don't understand the motivations behind them.

It's a little bit of leftover just-world fallacy maybe. We're surrounded by these people essentially partying as the ship goes down, reveling in it, showing what complete inhuman monsters they are, and it's bad for our sanity. It would do us good to see them brought back to earth.

Degenerates rarely admit that's what they are. In fact they prefer if people just accommodate them or humor them. Yes Trump makes it difficult but so many of them are still wearing that eyes-glazed-over slack-jawed smile on their faces. They won't be drawn from the fire, they name those blisters.

I often feel the same way. "Silkwood" shower would suffice.

For me (though you weren't asking me) it's more about if they will admit it then they can begin to learn and become better people for it. That would be enough for me. It's always difficult to watch the self-imposed blind stumble around when all they have to do is open their eyes.

How about the feeling that we never elect a person like drumpf to the highest office in the land? That would be a huge first step imo.

Wondering if there will be a drop in tourism over Trump and GOP's idiotic America First isolationist BS. Not to mention retarded sniping at the London Mayor or anyone else that has rendered imagined insult to our thin-skinned leader. The travel ban has had an effect according to a few articles, but I'm talking about long-term general unwillingness to come here and spend money from British, German etc citizens. Hell I live here and in a tourist-driven part of the country, and as much as it would hurt short-term, I think this would be be a nice dose of humility if we lost billions in tourist revenue with the direct stated reason of "Trump". We'd deserve it, much as I hate to lump myself in with that "we"....

I live in New Hampshire and the drop in tourism is going to hurt my state but hopefully, it will make people think next time.

Edit: As a plus thou my state has now decriminalized under an ounce of weed.

LOL No it isn't. Not by a long shot. I very clearly remember Watergate and what Nixon did and this is not even close to what Nixon did. Someone needs a review on his contemporary American history.

Yes, that person who needs a history lesson is you.

If you 'very clearly' remember watergate then you would remember that the 'smoking gun' that led to Nixon's resignation was a tape of him asking the CIA to help halt the FBI investigation.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nixon_White_House_tapes#The_.22smoking_gun.22_tape

In late July 1974, the White House released the subpoenaed tapes. One of those tapes was the so-called "smoking gun"[33] tape, from June 23, 1972, six days after the Watergate break-in. In that tape, Nixon agrees that administration officials should approach Richard Helms, Director of the CIA, and Vernon A. Walters, Deputy Director, and ask them to request L. Patrick Gray, Acting Director of the FBI, to halt the Bureau's investigation into the Watergate break-in on the grounds that it was a national security matter. The special prosecutor felt that Nixon, in so agreeing, had entered into a criminal conspiracy whose goal was the obstruction of justice.

Care to revise your opinion?

Haha Trump treated Chris Christy like Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman" by ordering all Chris's food and now he's treated Comey like he was in a 90s date rape lifetime show.
