LOL No it isn't. Not by a long shot. I very clearly remember Watergate and what Nixon did and this is not even close to what Nixon did. Someone needs a review on his contemporary American history.

Explain to me how Watergate was so much worse then.. Watergate was an attempt to steal political secrets and the subsequent coverup. Here the political secrets were stolen (by a highly adverse foreign power) and successfully used to sway the election, now we are in the coverup stage.

I was in college then and actively followed Watergate and other political matters. Although I despised him at the time (mostly because of his go-slow resolution of Vietnam), I now realize that Nixon actually did some good things. Trump on the other hand, is corrupt to the core and intent on demolishing the USA, while he and his cronies can loot it on the way down.

This is literally exactly what Nixon resigned over. This is it. --exactly--

In the 1970's the Republican Party was willing to put the country before the party and remove a criminal president who was attacking the foundations of the rule of law. It's a sick, sad statement on the rot inside the GOP that they aren't even close to that now.

Yes, it is the exact same thing. The major difference, however, is the tape of Nixon saying exactly this thing. There is precedent for FBI director testimony and memos to be accepted as an official statement of fact, but I doubt it will hold up to the same scrutiny compared to a tape, when considering cases involving POTUS.

It wasn't until the "smoking gun" tape of Nixon was available to the public that Goldwater and his two other buddies decided to walk over to the White House and officially tell Nixon that the party would no longer support him--and repubs didn't even have a majority at that time. Lots of significant differences between the two cases.

I don't think you know why Nixon resigned. It is all about the evidence that damned him.

I just want to know what the hell it's going to take before our resident Trump-fluffers admit their own degeneracy. This place is starting to make me feel like my soul needs a shower. In phenol.

I have about 1L of phenol on hand at the lab if you need some. Some Trizol, too, if you are looking for something a little less harsh.

I agree that testimony by the director of the FBI supported by contemporaneous documents and (apparently) other officials isn't as good as a tape, but it is still very strong evidence.

It wasn't until the "smoking gun" tape of Nixon was available to the public that Goldwater and his two other buddies decided to walk over to the White House and officially tell Nixon that the party would no longer support him--and repubs didn't even have a majority at that time. Goldwater was a senator, and that's what Nixon was worried about, conviction. Sure the Republicans didn't have a majority, but the caucus differences were 56-44, meaning that at LEAST 13 Republican caucus members (30%) were willing to join with the Democrats to remove Nixon from office. That's not so far from the percentage that would be needed now (about 37%) and for all we know the percentage could have been higher in 1974.

I agree that the circumstances are not identical to Nixon, but the offense is functionally identical, or as close to identical as you're ever going to get between two historical circumstances.

Friend sent this one to me at work.

Who is this beastly old guy ? He's trying to get the NSA and DNI heads to answer about Trump asking them to interfere with Comey and the FBI investigation into Trump/Russia. They both end up saying they need to speak to the white house lawyer.

This old gentleman is something fierce

Wondering if there will be a drop in tourism over Trump and GOP's idiotic America First isolationist BS. Not to mention retarded sniping at the London Mayor or anyone else that has rendered imagined insult to our thin-skinned leader. The travel ban has had an effect according to a few articles, but I'm talking about long-term general unwillingness to come here and spend money from British, German etc citizens. Hell I live here and in a tourist-driven part of the country, and as much as it would hurt short-term, I think this would be be a nice dose of humility if we lost billions in tourist revenue with the direct stated reason of "Trump". We'd deserve it, much as I hate to lump myself in with that "we"....

What a coincidence, we hate to lump you in with "us" as well.
