Not often I quote the NY Post but this is special:

A Brazilian lawyer tragically died after his gun was discharged by an MRI machine’s magnetic field at the hospital.

The freak accident occurred on January 16 while the gun-loving lawyer, named Leandro Mathias de Novaes, was taking his mother to get scanned at the Laboratorio Cura in São Paulo, Jam Press reported. Unbeknownst to hospital staff, the attorney had a registered firearm in his possession.

Staff had reportedly asked the pair to remove all metal objects before entering the MRI room, as is protocol at hospitals due to the device’s powerful magnetic field. However, Novaes decided to go in sans announcing his concealed weapon.

Disaster struck after the machine yanked the weapon from his waistband, causing it to go off and strike the lawyer in the stomach.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

Excuse me..

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

Just had one for my knee last week. Absolutely, no metals. It's a long list of stuff they ask you, even dentures. That's one reason why so many are located in temporary trailers outside of the clinic proper.

Is the accidental death of a fellow human being really that amusing to you?

There's a very good reason my hand tools are pure Titanium. Not that I haven't brought ferrous tools into the exam room from time to time, but I know where in the room I can go with them and near the MRI is NOT that place.

Good summary in this comment:

It's Brazil, but...it's bad enough entering the hospital armed, but then to enter the MRI exam room with it, after being told to remove all metal? Like the comment above says, you don't forget you're wearing it.

Might not be amusing, but did he deserve it/do it to himself? Abso-fucking-lutely. Honestly I'm glad he was the one shot and not his mother or hospital staff. FWIW I'm surprised he died, being shot in the stomache and being in the hospital already.

A cautionary tale, yes!

I know nothing about gun culture and gun laws/rights in Brazil. I do know it can be a dangerous place. At least the mother was likely inside the machine and therefore protected from her fucking idiot son bringing it in the room. Maybe he thought the MRI might find cancer cells in her, and you want to have that thing loaded and chambered so that you will be able to shoot those damn interlopers dead on the spot.

Why do you need a titanium hacksaw near the MRI?

We already have statistics that tell us gun owners are more likely to get shot.

Gun culture that promotes taking your gun to an MRI and is shot with his own gun is such a teachable moment.

Wonder of he had a Bolsonaro/Trump flag on his car?

Seems like hospitals should have people pass through metal detectors (or simply a wand scanner) before entering the MRI room. It may get false positives from various plates, but it might save a few lives too.

If the bullet went through him and pierced the dewar with liquid helium it couldve quenched the magnet with a person inside....the gunshot would be the least of your worries then.

This is proof that Hospitals are out to get conservatives. Conservatives should consider avoiding them at all costs. The horse health section at your local Farm and Home has everything you need for self administered health care that big pharma and big hospitals don't want you to know about. Don't be a sheep!

We have the wands but lately our techs just have everyone strip down and put on either Johnnies or scrub pants if they have a cotton t-shirt. Definitively nothing with pockets. Bras with underwires are a big no no obviously. Course that's not going to stop an idiot with an ankle holster.

We used to just tell patients to dress like they were going to the gym but then we started having a problem with patients wearing Copper Fit underwear which would get uncomfortably warm never mind potentially wreaking havoc with image quality.
