I'm in the process of buying a house and the biggest problem I'm having is deciding how much emphasis to place on being close to work.
How much commuting (one-way) can you stand? Obviously it's a function of how much of it is freeway and how congested it is.
I found a really nice neighborhood, but it's about 8 minutes of driving through city streets (lots of stoplights), then 15 minutes of freeway the opposite direction of rush hour. Compared to most of my coworkers this is about average, but for me it's quite a bit more (I'm used to 5-10 minutes). My goal is 20 minutes from work at most. I know 23-25 doesn't sound like much more, but it adds up. The worst part is that every time I want to go to the freeway I have to drive through the 8+ minutes of stoplights.
What's your tolerance?
