Comp freezes on Verifying DMI Pool Data in boot...

This one stumped me. I was waiting for my comp to boot up and it got stuck on verifying dmi pool data in the boot screen. Xp never loads up and it just sits there with the _ blinking. The lights on my keyboard seem to be off and if I restart, the same thing happens. It goes thru the boot process until that point and stops. I'm about to flash the bios and see what happens but after that im stumped. Anyone care to take a crack at it?

Antec 430w psu

amd 754 pin 3200+

1 gig mushkin ddr level 2 black 3500

abit kv8 max3 mobo

9800 pro

and some other irrelevant stuff. Been working flawlessly for over a year now.

Yes it worked before. I actually just finished reformatting and turned it off and went to bed. No oc was attempted or has ever been on this one

I dont usually do this but im desperate and I need this done by today. I have a final due by monday and I need time to work on it.

Its almost 100% certain that the problem is a Driver Loading issue. Since its a new install...dont waiste valuable time trying to dig out the problem becasue you most likely will not succeed. REINSTALL!!

Format again.. delete the partition and reinstall. Double check your bios settings too. Hell pull your memory and re-seat that while your at it. May as well pull out your extraneous cards that you don't need too if it keeps happening. Like DW said, its probably a driver.

I had this error after trying to use Ghost 2003 on my new SATA 74gb HD, tryed everything, in the end it was simple. Though it is possible to loose all your data if it doesn't work.
I went into the XP Recovery Council and at the prompt typed FixMBR.

Windows then booted fine.

Was very frustrating for a few days.

Also, confirm that your keyboard is in the correct PS/2 port (the purple one) if you have a PS/2 keyboard (round plug). If you're on a network and don't have any other firewall protection, you don't want to plug in your network cable or enable a wireless connection until you have your system's firewall activated.

In WinXP SP0 or SP1, the Windows built-in firewall is called "Internet Connection Firewall." If you don't know where to enable it, Windows Help will show you, just search for "firewall."

In WinXP SP2, it's called Windows Firewall and will already be enabled upon installation. If possible, patch the system to SP2 from a CD (assuming your CD doesn't have it already built in), so you get not only the firewall, but also a boatload of worm vulnerabilities patched up. full SP2 installer here.
