It's just a P3 coppermine, but they can make a nice upgrade on an old BX board. I have one running in an old Dell XPS R400, formally running a pentium 2 400. FSB is not overclockable, these types of computers and other BX boards can make good use of this cpu.

Unfortuneately, looking at pricewatch reveals that this might not be a hot deal, but an average price.

I think the "in stock" part has more to do than the price in making this a hot deal.

It's within 10 dollars of others on Pricewatch. What's the warranty period with Compgeeks? Most on PW are 15-30 day unless you get a 200 dollar plus one.

I've got an older Dell and was going to buy one of these for $200 a while back at Googlegear. Decided to buy a 1.2ghz Celeron with adapter from powerleap for $170 and it runs great.

Not thread crapping, just showing other options as this is a good deal for the 1ghz PIII.

Good choice, that combo outperforms this p3 1ghz. Anyone wanting a 100fsb Slot 1 cpu would be better off going with that. Powerleap has dropped the price to $149 for it as well. Does anyone know if you can use any higher Tualatin Celeron with the Powerleap adaptor?

I think you are wrong about overclocking potential. I have the FCPGA PIII 1GHZ (100 fsb) and run it most of the time at 120FSB (1.2ghz) on my Abit BF6. Pretty fast chip and no heat problem. Just my 2 cents.

A powerleap adaptor + celeron isn't gonna do squat for your
dual BX-based motherboard, which is the best use for these
chips...

I bought a couple of these last week to run in a HP Kayak XU
(BX- motherboard) dual processor workstation...Run like a charm!

i am running one on my abit bh6 @ 1120 (10x 112 fsb). bought this about 6 months ago for $160 and been great. this processor help me the save my bh6 and save me some time until the next necessary upgrade.
