I bought these a while back when they were $10 for 25, knowing they were probably really CHEAP ( Price & Quality ) DVD-R's. I do notice that in these 50packs it does have 1x printed on the dvd. I did a test burn at it burned at 2x with no problems. I've burned a total of about 50+ on my nec2500A (stock firmware) perfectly at 2x, no coasters. All play back in my sony dvd player and PS2 just fine.

well, I burned a backup of a movie to check and it skipped at 1 hour 16 minutes. I thought the quality of this 50 pack wasn't neraly as good as the 25 and 10 packs I have bought in the past. Decided between the movie skip and the 2 scratched ones that I would go trade it in, so I went and the lady said there are only packages in the back now (I don't know why and didn't ask) but she went to the back and got me a new one, I haven't opened it yet but I hope it is better than the other one.

I seem to have problems with 50 packs, the first 50 pack I ever bought was memorex 4x media, they would only burn at 2x, took them back and leter got 3 10 packs of memorex, they burn fine at 4x. Still don't now what was wrong with that 50 pack.

After reading chebago's post about the dvd skipping at about 1h 16m i decided to carefully examine a moive all the way through and did find out that around that time the dvd did actually skip back 50 frames or so then it proceded to play fine to the end. It seems the movies i backed up with the CUSA 25 packs work fine. Im now contimplating returning this 50pack (minus a few dvd's).

Any good Ritek deals out there rite now?

this new pack I traded for seems to be of better quality (the other one had jagged edges and little blotches of white paint all over the side, plus the 2 scratched top ones) as I have about 60 movies backed up on Compusa media and never have had a problem (all with 25 packs pretty much) I am cautiously optimistic that I just got a bad batch, which happens.

I bought 2 50 packs of these. One pack burned *perfectly* at 2x (and I suspect would have worked at 4x) with an optorite dd0203. The other pack, even though it shows it is capable of being burned at 1x and 2x, will only be readable if burned at 1x. I Bought them at the same time, same day. Just goes to show how much batches vary with cheap media.

Compusa should be avoided at all costs, they were selling FAKE Imitation Arctic Silver which contained ZERO silver in it, though the paste looked extremely silvery. They are a very shady company. In fact they admitted there was no silver in it after a website ran some tests on it and called CompUSA out. CompUSA replied by saying they would recall all their silver thermal paste componds but I doubt they ever did.

Reminds me of their "Gold" house-brand CD-Rs. They weren't gold at all, but just had a gold-colored painted top layer. (Unlike real gold CD-Rs, that actually have a real gold reflective layer. Real ones should be non-corrosive, and last much longer - ie. for medical archiving purposes and such.)

Even though they weren't truely gold, the thickness of the protective topcoat helps them to reduce scratches, I use them for music CD copies for the car.

My supply of these disks has given me no problems and burn fine for me at 2x. CompUSA on the whole is a fine place to buy your PC stuff. All these stories about "I once bought a widget and therefore the whole place sucks" are just examples of a small cranium...just the facts...

How the hell is that evidence "of a small cranium"? I was simply providing anecdotal evidence, in support of the fact, that "if they did it once, they'll do it again". They have intentionally mis-marketed and mis-labled house-brand products many times. If you don't want to admit that, fine. If you do or don't want to continue shopping there, fine. But at least don't try to cut down those that present facts. Because, those really are "just the facts", whether you like them or not.

And I never said that the whole place sucks, I've purchased from them before, and probably will again. Their 90 CD-Rs for $8 deal they had was a pretty hot one, and occasionally they have good prices on some other things. I wouldn't dream of paying their regular prices on anything though.

I was wondering why my local CompUSA silver thermal paste compound disappeared and they never seemed to restock it...
