I got the whole house pretty much done in CFL's. Except the dimmable fixtures...

as a side note.... GE's bulbs suck a$$. I had 2 go out in less than a year, and a couple other standard flourescent made by GE farted out also... Most of the stuff made be GE sux nowadays... hell, even my cordless was a GE and its not worth a $hit either...

The CFL bulbs at Big Lots seem to be a lot better.

I have them in almost all of my lights at home. The only complaint I have is they dont seem to like heat too well. The lamps I put in smaller enclosures seem to burn out pretty fast. That could have been the brand/type I was using though. I recently switched to smaller bulbs in those enclosures and they seem to be lasting better than the previous ones.

CF bulbs make my head hurt. My fan had 4 bulbs in there. I took all them out except one.

Hmmm... I like the white light from flourescent bulbs. I can't stand the yellowy orangy light from incandescent bulbs. It makes things look dirty and dingy... as if I smoke in the house and the walls are stained yellow from it.

My wife didn't like some that we had because the color that they ouput looks different. Also we have some older ones that actually take a minute or two to "Warm Up" when they first turn on. But we have 2 in our outside lights and one in the lamp on my night stand. I think they work fine.

Lots of times you can get them for really cheap because places will have discounts or rebates and such as well.

Exactly
Id switch in a heartbeat if it wasnt reminisant of the lighting in our office. I want a soft, golden glow like conventional bulbs in my house. NOt glaring white light that gives me a headache in mins of usage.

The light fixture/cover gives my room a soft yellow glow. It looks just like incandescent lighting.

Good info in this thread...

In need to remember to check the color temperatures..

What did you say? 5500k is good to aim for to approximate sunlight?

They also aren't recommended to go into closed fixtures.
I did the whole house a yr ago, I feel better when the kids leave the basement lights on and it isn't wasting 300 watts now only 75 Watts or so.

The two flood type ones in the Kitchen take too long to warm up I feel but the rest are good after 10-20 seconds. The bathroom still has Incandescants cause of the fixture types.
In a consumer type of society the cost wheather its made back or not, isn't as important as using less energy If we could cut electical consumption in half, Natural gas for heating would go down less power plants would need to be built less nuclear, less coal
I read if we ever manage room tempature superconductivity basically mankinds energy crisis is over.

theyre nice in fixtures that say 60 watt or less bulbs (for safety reason) and you want more light output. you can put 20 watt cfs in and get the same light output as 100+ watt bulbs.

I have them everywhere I dont have dimmers. less heat, less electricity cost, longer life.

Just dont use them in bathrooms, the humidity isnt good for them.

All of the ones im my bathrooms are flourescent... been there for 2 1/2 years. They seem to be doing well.

As a matter of fact there are two directly in my shower in recessed fixtures.
