I hate the whole points and coupons etc system that so many companies have. Get rid of all that crap and all the overhead that goes with having to have that system, and just lower the prices by a small amount.
Fine, but don't miss the point that when they DO have it and it has the benefit they want of giving them more income, that refusing to reinstate the rewards they gave for that when they change the policy, isn't good.

Over years, I built up hundreds of thousands of points staying at Marriott properties.
Then, I did not travel for years. Marriott had told me I could count on their never expiring the points.
I just checked,and in 2016 they deleted all the points; I'd heard of no change to the policy.
I explained the situation; they chose to not restore the points. I informed them I'd plan not to stay at Marriott properties again, and to let others know of the poor service they provided on this.
Coincidentally, I'd also seen them in the news recently for a change bad for customers I don't really take issue with.
The story said that they have gotten so big - over a million rooms IIRC - that they are ending the customary practice of not charging guests for late reservation cancellations. Seems clear the direction they're heading.
Instead of whining here, why not public shame them on social media like Twitter, Facebook, etc? Recently did this with Bestbuy and received quick responses and resolution.

Well, I think the OP's main beef is that the company unilaterally changed the terms of his agreement, which no amount of noticing and reading their mailed announcement that they had done so would have helped. He lost "points" he had diligently accrued in good faith that they would be honored. That's life in the big leagues, I know, but it does suck. I'd be pissed, too.Okay, yeah, but let's be honest here - that's in the same category as some dumb fuck that got butt-hurt because he didn't read the terms & conditions of the program he was participating in. Then he cries and says "WAAAAH!! Everyone boycott them because I did something stupid".
Which is why I play the credit card game. I've flown my family of 3 3x this year and am going to do it again in November, and have paid nothing but taxes.Flying sucks anyway. Not only is it uncomfortable and a hassle, a family of 4 from NY to LA is nearly $2k. F that.
We used to fly when it was just the two of us, but a family trip is costly. We've been doing road trips along the coast instead. Maine last year and up to Toronto this year.
