I held off the enemy very easily in my last game, but it required going on the offense a bit and grabbing a few points from him (CPU). Had him shuttered in a quarter of the map and he never even got out anything beyond a scout car.

I guess I've not yet tried it, but I don't see it being that hard to play truly defense if I wanted to, although I'd still have to deal with the fuckin mortars they throw at you.

The ability to use structures and minimal mobility units to control an area.

I dunno, it didn't work that well in CoH 1 either frankly. You could use those units for area denial, but you couldn't really set up static defenses effectively or they'd just get wasted by the other player's long range units and call-ins.

After comparing them, looks like skirmish mode AI behavior is same as previous games. For defensive play, we'll have to wait for the full game and it's scripted events, I replayed the defense of Carentan countless times.

I can't quite point a finger as to exacatly why I have the impression but I'm thinking we won't get enough content.

I liked them on Facebook and recieved a beta key, its pretty similar to the first version but that is a good thing. Anyone else in the beta game for teaming up?

I think there's another CoH 2 thread, but to answer your question I'd be interested (I have Steam beta access if that matters). I'm terrible though. I can easily beat Easy and Normal computers (haven't tried above Normal difficulty), but get loved gently by any human player.

The other thread is about Company of Heroes 2, this must be some other game.

Clamum friend me up on steam, my user name is the same as my forum name here. We'll do a 2v2 match. I only played 2 1/2 rounds so I am certainly no expert.

LOL, I guess I didn't realize in my last post that the "other CoH 2 thread" was the one I was posting in. :awe:

Jules and Fanatical, added you both. I'm done for tonight though. Lost another fuckin game, this time 2 vs 2. I play as Soviets (so far), and had a Light and Medium tank. Ended up against a German Medium Panzer and took a tiny sliver of his health while he destroyed both of my tanks easily. Here I had just watched KrebsCOHO's CoH 2 Gameplay video and thought to myself "shit I can do that". lulz, yeah right; raped again.

Jules, I couldn't find you in steam. Friend me same steam name as here. Let's try for a 3v3 vs the conputer players. The computer plays a rough game I lost twice on easy.

I was losing on Easy mode when I first started playing too, probably the first three or four games. Sure you gotta get used to the units but I think mainly you just gotta be aggressive, and always be building/training something if you're floating resources.

So far the computer germans don't seem to handle blizzards well. Half their infantry would die during a blizzard.

no, you can't effectively lock down whole areas, that's really not the point. Even brits, which have a ton of encampments, won't be able to lock down whole sectors.

The point is to use those type of units to deny infantry access to critical fuel points/ammo points so that you can tech up faster than them. By the time they get long range units or mortars or whatever, you have already denied them enough fuel to be able to tech up to be able to counter THOSE units. You make it costly for them to take the critical resource points. They might need to call in arty strike or strafing runs, or select specific tech trees to counter your units... which you can predict and then counter appropriately. Thats the beauty of the game.

Classic example: occupy a house with HMGs, deny infantry access to a high fuel point. They build mortars to counter your HMGs, but you had enough fuel to tech up to pumas. They roll in with a mortar team and enough infantry to overwhelm your HMG, but you roll your puma in and kill all the infantry that isn't equipped to deal with light armored units. They're now down about 600 manpower, and you could've retreated your HMG unit while they were trying to shell your position.

Oh man, I finally won a game last night (vs a human, 1 vs 1). We played on Pripyat Spring and the first little battle took place by the VP in between the two bridges; I interrupted him in the middle of trying to barb wire me out and deny me access. I'm sure that helped quite a bit that he wasn't able to complete it.

From then on, I just played aggressively, capping almost all points on the map though I did lose a few later in the game, but came back with Lights and a Medium Tank and he had only a PaK as a counter, as well as a Panzerfaust or two equipped unit. Quite easy actually, it was similar to playing vs a Normal AI, though he was level 10 I believe (as was I).
