The Tiger was in beta, but they took it out of the commander tree for balance in open beta. I'm sure we'll see it's return eventually.

Yeah maybe earlier in a game they might thwart one's strategy, but by the time vehicles roll onto the scene they generally become mere annoyances more than anything else.

Assuming you have vehicles to spare guarding points, which likely means your opponent isn't all that good. Blizzards are great for flash raids using inf/halftracks to cut supply lines. It's also fun to crush fire pits and force infantry to retreat or freeze to death; good way to kill AT guns too.

Danke !! Are there any other vehicles that you are aware of that aren't in the open beta ??

:thumbsup: This is my current fave strategy !! I can almost hear the computer AI grumbling curse words upon me after I smash a firepit. The AI does it to me constantly, hence my bitterness and dogged determination to do unto him what he does unto me.

Not off the top of my head. There's actually more now, in a way. Before some commander units replaced stock units (T-34/85 instead of T-34/76). Now you just get them in addition.

I'm depressed at the thought of having to shell out $60 for this game. It might be the first time I do so in a long time.

I got it for 40.50 on GMG.

Oh wow didn't realize that discount was still available. Might hop on it in the next few days... although I'm wondering if Steam will have it for half off during its summer sale.

This, Rome 2, and Civ V are going to be my mainstay strategy games for a good while.

Just picked it up for $45 on GMG.

Also, I don't need a key for this public beta, correct?

I can't quite put my finger on it, but this game looks more... cartoony than COH1. Also the UI seems more in your way than it did in the original too.

Ya, I have to agree with you here. I look at numerous screen caps of the game and compared to my in-game view, what I see is much brighter and less 'gritty' than those screencaps (especially the Elefant, which looks like its glowing at all times like a freakin' beacon !!)

The IU change was deemed necessary to just shove more info down your throat - kids these days want more info than us old timers cared for. Why not put a Twitter or FB window in a corner so we can tweet about it or 'like' it ?? *BARF*

In all honesty, the IU DOES give you more info. Highlight a vehicle and you can see its full stats including its vet level, XP level til its next vet level and apparently its kills up to that point (I have yet to find this stat, but I'm told it's there somewhere).

Yeah I liked how in COH1 you could see exactly how many infantry, vehicles, and structures each unit had killed.

So the Steam beta ends in 5 days, correct ?? And the game is released June 26th ? I am in dire financial straits currently, and it's going to hurt to buy this game. I really, really do want to buy it and support the devs, but to try and justify the $45, or even worse, $75 (DCE) cost (even after 25% coupon) is verrry tough to swallow.

Having plunked down over 4k for this thing over here

Yeah i think i might just wait until its cheaper. Seems good and all but when ive had so much with with LoL and WoT which are essentially free, plus ive spent all my money building a home gym and buying this stupid hexacore the game fund is kinda depleted.

I dunno ill see...

Found the kill stats on vehicles. Its in the lower left of the display window once you highlight the vehicle. It is such a tiny circular window .. I guess I was expecting something a little more obvious or easier to spot.

Still enjoying the beta, and since today is my B-day, I scored over $100 in Amazon GC. I will use that to buy the DCE and hopefully be able to roll my rank and stats over to the retail game.
Looking forward to the additional commanders offered via the DCE, and still learning the nuances of the game.

I didn't really care for the cartoony look of the game and went back to play some COH1 for a while. I've come to realize that the AI can be awful on COH1, it all depends on the map. Some maps the AI is swarming all over the place and on some maps the AI just seem to sit in their base and don't even bother to play the game.

Overall I like the look and feel of COH1 much more. Less crap on the interface and more realistic looking. I think I'll just wait until COH2 has been out for a while, let some patches roll out, and the price to drop before picking it up.

Did the beta. Its okay. I really wish they let you zoom out more. I feel like I'm about 2x closer to the action than I really want to be. Enjoying wargame:airland battles more right now.

Yeah i agree on the zoom level, first thing i do is scroll the mouse wheel in a vain effort to zoom out more before remembering oh yeah, is is as far as it goes... bollocks...

New patch (yet again !!!!) for the beta ... this must be the 7th or 8th patch that has come out in a 2 week span now. The patch covers a lot, as several new maps are included, with a winter Pripyat that offers relocated VPs as well as a few watch posts that can be used to provide increased vision, and can also be garrisoned to be either a medic station or an armor repair station.

Also, the Flammenwerfer halftrack has been nerfed with a substantial reload time from half a second all the way to 3 seconds, and its duration dropped from 4 to 3 seconds.

Also, and most importantly to me at least, the beta did not expire yesterday at 5PM EST. Due to the confusion on the Double XP Weekend on the 22-23rd, Sega has now extended the beta so that gamers who bought the pre-order from places other than Steam can still take advantage of the double XP offer.

I'm confused about the double xp weekend. Does this mean that XP earned during beta event will carry over to the full version when that goes live on the 25th?

According to the devs on the CoH forums, your beta XP will carry over for up to 60 days after the retail version is released. So essentially you have 60 days to purchase the retail version and retain your XP that you accumulated over the beta.

I've made it to level 35 already, so I need to stop playing so much or the double XP weekend will be wasted effort. They are upping the level cap as well, but I'm not sure if it's capped at 45 until the beta ends or whether that's the retail cap as well.

Edit: A few posts seem to indicate they changed the zoom level as well so you can now zoom out your view further. Anyone confirm this ??

Got a chance to play a few new maps - Pripyat winter is a totally different map in winter with the VPs all located in the center of the map, and 2 vehicle repair stations around the map exterior. The center chokepoint now holds a watch tower that can (and should immediately) be garrisoned, as an MG can hit enemy units at all 3 VPs. Cap it, add a sniper and MG and you now have the upper hand.

The City map is very well done as well. They spent some time on these maps, and it's interesting to see how each faction can use terrain and cover to ambush or flank with ease.

The latest cheap tactic for the Soviets is multiple Clown (Scout) cars with a Sniper on board to cap points. Its fast enough to avoid any German infantry, and has 3x the viewing range, allowing the sniper to pick off enemies and kite out of PF range with ease.
