intel website mentions P4 M only upto 1.8Ghz Intel
So it definetly is a desktop Processor.
But arent they the same anyways ?

I called Compaq and checked out the specs. It appears to be a larger case than the 2800, and uses a desktop processor. The floppy and optical drives are fixed not removable, so it weighs significantly more.

In terms of speed, yes. But in terms of power consumption and heat, no. Mobile processors use less power than desktops and typically allow for significantly longer battery power. Also, the laptop will get fairly hot in comparison to a mobile processor based one. For those reasons alone, i would proceed with caution on this one.

i think the power reduction part i.e Speedstep is present in the motherboard chipset.
i may be wrong on this ...

Funny I saw this post just after reading this article at the Inquirer - link.

I'd advise against getting a regular P4 for the reasons listed above (more power comsumption mainly) unless you aren't planning on traveling a lot with it. Even still though, if you're not using the laptop for mobility you can get a more powerful desktop for cheaper. Still a decent deal though.

Im pretty sure it dosent have Speedstep.

This model was recently on sale at BestBuy for about $1799 after rebate. I do believe it is a desktop processore. 32M Radeon 7500. 64M option is not available.

Why is it you can't seem to find any specs on compaq's website about their notebooks? Dimensions? Weight? They must still be in transition from transferring over to HP....
