Look online, the laptop costs $1199 + $75 shipping fee if you order on line.
To waive the $75 shipping fee, you may go to B&M store and order there.
The manager will waive the shipping fee for you.
However, don't confuse this with the store ad. It's different.
You can use $300 off coupon since it's BTO.
You will not get $150 staples rebate coz it excludes BTO.
Forget the $200 discount coz that's for MSN subscription rebate $21 per month.
You may be able to use either $30 or $50 off coupon but not both. However, some store
may not let you use this in combination with the $300 coupon.
Yes, the $100 compaq rebate is definitely valid.
So, the total real price is 1199 - 300 - 50 -100 = 749 + tax. That's for real.
I guess I can't get the 900z then. I really do need stereo line-in. The Dell's have it, I'm almost positive - 4150 and 8200. A LOT more money, though. Guess I'll keep shopping. I'm not in a giant hurry.Originally posted by: frereJacques
a mic jack is mono - you'd at the very least need a stereo line-in jack (so that both r/l channels are xfered)
however, using a lil headphone cable or such rather than digital, XLR or at least standard audio cables is going to be subpar.
Those of you who are wistfully looking at these deals, I think they are signs that the prices of laptops are relentlessly going down like PCs did a few years ago. Remember when you used to pay $1000 for an entry level PC; you can now get one for $400 or less. Same with laptops; I bought a 14.1" 366 Mhz Celeron on closeout for $1600 about 2 years ago; for that price you can now get a loaded laptop.
Component prices (like LCDs) are coming down, manufacturers just don't have pricing support and Intel is talking about putting more and more functionality like wireless into their chips which is bound to drive prices lower.
Don't be surprised if entry level laptops hit $600-$700 in a year's time and loaded ones go for around $1000-$1200.
There. That makes you feel better, doesn't it?
What is XP2000+? I assume the HD is 4200 RPM. I wonder if the 40 GB is 5400 like the Dells. I believe the 900z comes stock with 256 MB 2100 DDR, that is 2 sticks of 128 MB. The cost of upgrading your RAM is pretty high, in my view. 1 GB costs an extra $800. Seems like a lot. Even to get one stick of 256 or 2 x 256 is pretty steep. Why would you want 8xDVD when it comes stock with DVD/CD-RW combo?Originally posted by: DAPUNISHER
This worked out to be a fairly good deal for me, I configured it with a XP2000+, 15"TFT, 30gb HDD, 256mb 2100DDR and 8xDVD and after the $300 instant rebate, $50 off $500 coupon, $100 mir, tax &shipping my final cost was 1011$ I can definitely live with that
Glad you asked, first, I don't need a crappy 8x burner for my lappy when I can hook it to my home network and upload any files I can't fit on floppy and burn them on 1 of my 40x burners in my desktops hence I removed it and it deducted a 100$ from my total which then paid for the 15" TFT upgrade from the 14.1" and XP2000+ which is a considerably faster CPU than the 1500+ that comes with it stock You can't be serious about not knowing what a XP2000+ isOriginally posted by: Muse

I priced out multiple configs of Dells with the rebates, stackable coupons, ect. and none could touch the overall specs of the compaq for the same $$$ plus Dell would have even forced me to take the XP office package on several models if I wanted a CPU faster than the 1.7 P4 which came with 200Mhz SDRAM! As to the ram, what the hell do I need 1gb of ram in my lappy for again? It'll mostly be for spread sheets and other work related proggies my wifey uses and the data will easily fit on FDD, not to mention I can get 256mb of Crucial 2100DDR sodimm delivered via 2nd day fedex to my door for 73$ Also, should I decide to whisk it to a LAN party it does have Radeon 7500 graphics with up to 64mb shared memory to use instead of the 16mb ATI I would have gotten with a 1.7ghz P4 that the XP2000+ will walk all over in games since the P4 was coupled with 200mhz SDRAM in the same price range shipped after tax and rebates, ect. In the end a deal is largely dependent on the perspective of the purchaser, and I'm quite satisfied with the overall system specs for 1011$ delivered to my door, plus I don't need it to be a desktop replacement but I did want to adjust the specs to give me the things I would use on it and get rid of the fluff I wouldn't use E.G. any speed burner. BTW I can buy a 256mb stick of ram, sell one of the 128mb sticks and have 384mb for a 45$ upgrade cost, and 384mb is more than enough for what this lappy will be doing I looked at the Dell 8200SE and 4150SE real hard but after everything was said and done I felt like this was the better choice for my wifey and myself's needs, I'm not implying this formula applies to everyone but it's my money, ya know?
Uh, sorry I totally spaced the XP2000+ thing. Yeah, I knew that's a CPU, I must have absorbed a gamma ray. I took a real hard look at the Dell 4150SE and 8200s. When I saw the ad in Sunday's paper for the 900z at Staples my jaw just dropped and I could hardly believe my eyes. I decided to search around and see if anybody had picked up on it in the forums. What turned me off is just that it doesn't have a stereo line in jack. I believe the Dell's do. I need it to record MP3s from live analog sound. I do this with my desktops all the time and I need it in a lappy right now. I also absolutely need a burner in a lappy. I don't know that CPU speed will matter all that much to me. Never had a lappy, so I'll probably take my lumps when I finally get one. The step up from 14.1 to 15.1 looked interesting. The manager at the Staples I went to said it only increased the weight by 1/2 lb. I wonder if that's true. The 900z is around 7 lb "stock." That's over a pound heavier than a similar 4150SE, but the price difference is tremendous. Somebody said this deal is indicative of where prices are heading ... down. Can you just put a regular stick of DDR in these laptops? If so, they are really overcharging for those RAM upgrades. I take it you can do that yourself.Originally posted by: DAPUNISHER

I talked to my local Staples, and they said that the additional $150 coupon is only good on prepackaged systems.Right now there is not a 900z prepackaged system.
