Anybody know the battery life with these? And is it the mobile XP or is it a desktop CPU? And this has the radeon 7500, right?

I read this article and it says that the IGP 320m graphics have the same feature set as the 7000 series cards so it is basically 7500 graphics and since it shares the 2100DDR ram it performs well, just look at the benchmarks for it in the article. It also states we get the mobile XP with power now enabled which is sweet! My XP2000+ should whup ass Not to mention the CPU usage when watching a DVD is very low which should help battery life somewhat.

No way the IGP320M is as fast as the 7500. The IGP320M is a Radeon VE core, VE is crap. The 7500 is much fast. I don't know where you got the idea that it's like the 7500.

I take it you didn't read the review
We first looked at ATI's new integrated video solution with the desktop version, the IGP 320. Both solutions share the same architecture which is similar to the Radeon 7000 series in performance. ATI has provided us with an engineering sample of the Compaq Presario 900 which includes the IGP 320M integrated graphics.
that cleary states 7000 series not VE Where did you get the idea it was VE?

I have 2 reviews supporting that the IGP320M is based on the Radeon VE core and worse than 7000 Radeon.

First review: anandtech's review of 900z
Quoted: All Radeon IGP northbridges contain an integrated graphics chip based on the Radeon VE core.

Second review: tomshardware review
Quoted: 3D engine is like "half a Radeon"

The Compaq Presario 1500T has ATI Radeon 7500 32MB, that's what I bought for $837

1) Where can i find the $30 and $50 coupon? Chubby wallet? i couldn't find those codes on chubbywallet.
(BTW, why did the mods ban writing the real name for chubby wallet?)
2) Where can i see the details of the $150 coupon mentioned?

I'm the first to admit when I'm wrong and I am! I was misled by the 2 articles@AMDzone which weere the only 2 I read and both refer not it being based on the 7000series core (my bad on presuming that) but that the performance was on par with the Radeon 7000 not 7500! After reading the 2 linked articles, thanx for the links, I see it is indeed based on the VE however your condemnation of the IGP is unwarranted as both articles state it's able to game although for some games you'll need to adjust resolution and/or color depth so I wouldn't call any lappy able to game adequately enough to enjoy it bad. Especially since it's not a desktop replacement lappy and it does have the benefits of excellent DVD playback which I'll use far more and good power saving tech to prolong battery life. Anyways, thanx for the input but you still aren't raining on my parade if that was the intention because for what I want it for it'll whup ass and the price is comfortably within what I wanted to pay for the features as well

Oh, I got this 900z deal from staples. I too wanted a better video card in a laptop but this deal was too good. I just wanted to state that it's not as a good of a card as the reviews state.

I just went to OD to try Compaq 900z and HP 4145. Both of them use AMD XP1800+. Because those two notebooks

are used for demo, so they've been turned on for a long time. When I touched the keyboard of 900z, damn, the

temperature is so....... high. But, when I tried the HP 4145, it's very cool although they use the same CPU.

So, originally I planned to buy presario 900z, but changed my mind after trying it. When it comes to the temperature,

HP is better, that's the bottom line.

You are judging the computer based on that? heh. Just go read reviews on the computers, I think that might help you out a bit more......

When two notebooks have identical or almost equal performance, comfort is the name of the game.

I guess you haven't tried the 900z, just put your little palm on top of its keyboard or the bottom of the

screen, you'll see how hot it is. It's hot enough to make you feel uncomfortable. HP 4145 is better, that's the bottom line.

That's true. I'm thinking about HP ZE4000 with INTEL 1.7GHz Mobile CPU. Since HP does a better job in heat dissipation

than Compaq and INTEL is cooler than AMD, ZE4000 would be a better choice than Presario 900z.

Yes, I have used the 900z before. My friend bought one and received his last week.

My point is....you have no idea how long the HP was on for. So, comparing one against the other when you have no idea how long both of them had been on for isn't very smart. If you think the 900z is just hot, that's one thing, but comparing the two in the environment that you did doesn't make sense. At least, it doesn't mean much to me. Someone could have turned the HP on 30 minutes b4 u got there.....

I had the 900z on my knee for awhile after it had been on over a weekend and wasn't bothered by it......

The OD in my neighborhood always turns the notebooks on all day. That's why it's called DEMO. I went there in the afternoon,

which means they are already on for more than 4 hours. I fooled around with those two computers for 30 minutes.

900z is as hot as a pancake, but HP is very cool. I don't know why you said the comparison in OD doesn't make sense. The air

conditioner is on and the ambient temperature is comfortable, at least cooler than my room. If 900z is that hot in a cool office,

I can't imagine how hot it can reach in the room or on your tiny knee.

Dood, you have no idea when they turned it on.....they could have forgotten to turn on the HP, and turned it on b4 u got there. I went to OD today and 3 laptops were off. This was around 2:30pm. I started one of the Compaq's myself. That is why I bring that up. Is it really that hard to understand???

Why don't you look at the review of anandtech and see how they criticize the cooling system of 900z,

and tell me how you feel when you put that hot lava on your tiny knee?

"Interestingly enough, it was on this access panel that the bottom of the Presario 900 got the warmest. The rubber pad over the memory access panel reached a scorching 145 degrees Fahrenheit (67.8 degrees Celsius), making it uncomfortable to have on ones lap for an extended period of time. Truthfully we could not figure out why this area of the system got so hot. The only thing we can figure is that some of the heat from the Radeon IGP northbridge is being channeled down to this area for cooling. Whatever the cause, the system's warm bottom temperature left more cooling desired."

I didn't forget. I was just curious how amazing knee you have to endure 145 degree Fahrenheit and

still feel comfortable.

Come on dood....you can't be serious. The write-up done by AT is their opinion, just like you have an opinion and so do I. Sure, their numbers might not be wrong, but when I used this laptop, I did not find it to be a problem. When I used it, I found most of the hot air exiting the left side of the unit. My lap was just fine. If you want to call that amazing, go for it. heh.

Your f-n boring me dood....do you really want to keep going on about this?

Why are you even listening to Karnold, did you not see his post from page1 criticizing people and how he was able to get the laptop for ~500. Hey Karnold, so did you ever get that $500 deal? Hmm, I guess it doesn't matter now that you think the HP is better than the Compaq. I hope when you say 1.7 mobile intel, you mean the P4 mobile because the celeron is in nowhere close to the performance of an AthlonXP. Anyhoo I hope you can figure a way to get the HP for ~500 too, oh wait, you can't cause the deal isn't possible, my bad.

Thank you for remembering me. 1.7mobile in ZE4000 is P4-M, not celeron. We can use $300 off,

$50/$200 online, $30/$150 print coupon, $75 waive of shipping fee, and $100 rebates. That's a total of $555 off.
