Hmm, I guess it doesn't matter now that you think the HP is better than the Compaq. I hope when you say 1.7 mobile intel, you mean the P4 mobile because the celeron is in nowhere close to the performance of an AthlonXP. Anyhoo I hope you can figure a way to get the HP for ~500 too, oh wait, you can't cause the deal isn't possible, my bad.

Thank you for remembering me. 1.7mobile in ZE4000 is P4-M, not celeron. We can use $300 off,

$50/$200 online, $30/$150 print coupon, $75 waive of shipping fee, and $100 rebates. That's a total of $555 off.

Hmm $555 off thats sound awfully familiar, oh wait a minute, I posted that on the first page, but somebody said I was being pessimistic, what did you realized that you couldn't get the deal for ~$500, its about time. Maybe instead of criticizing and calling names, you should do a little research first.

I think I should start from learning English because I can't understand yours. What is "what did you realized that you couldn't get the

deal for ~$500?" Did you want to say "When did you ...." Somebody said you were being pessimistic because there was a possible

$200 extra savings and you didn't think it's possible to get it and asked the other people not to post it before they tried, that's why.

Criticizing is a way to find out the pros and cons of different models. That's a good thing to do.

Oh I'm sorry if I'm speaking in slang, what I meant was "what, did you realized that you couldn't get deal for ~500" . Did you understand that?

Oh and one more thing if you actually read the first page, you're the first person to quote me in a reply stating my pessimistic nature.

True, and that's before I saw the ads.

I just went to Staples and placed the order. The teller said she couldn't let me use both $30 and $50 coupons because

there is only one item and their system wouldn't allow her to do so. I said fine and signed my name for the payment

already. Then she printed out the receipt and shocked and said "You bought so many things??? In this case, I will let

you use that $50 coupon" It's funny, because in fact it's just a notebook, but the receipt shows the details of all the

components like ze4000 pavilion (499501), DVD/CDRW (499515)......... So, eventually I got all $555 off as I planned.

You guys may try to pursuade the teller by saying this deal contains multiple items and each item has its own SKU, so

you may use more than 2 coupons. YMMV of course.

Yep I have a 1500 as well. It's a shame the damn thing weighs a ton huh?! Can't wait until the p4 2.2-m go down in price to pop it in!! I'm holding off on the 6200rpm drives to go down in price too.

Yeah you wouldn't think that 7 pounds weighs a lot but it does! I would love to have a superslim laptop weighing under 4 pounds, I'd even sacrifice my 15.0" SXGA and go down to a 12.1 13.3 or 14.1 XGA but I bought this because it was REALLY CHEAP ($837) so overall I am thrilled.

Have you removed the back flap? I use a USB optical mouse and I want to remove that back flap but none of my screw drivers can get a good fit into the screws which anchor that flap.

No I didn't remove the flap. But I am tempted as hell to cut a small slit for one of the USB ports. That way I can plug it into my USB hub that has the external keyboard and mouse without moving the flap all the time. What you think? I was thinking it will have to be the "inside" usb port but I'm too scared to do it.

EDIT: And I don't care what anyone says, but the 4200rpm drve is slowing this system down. Too bad they don't come any faster.

I just got my Compaq Presario 900Z today (10/21) after ordering 1 week ago on 10/13. It's totally cool! My last laptop was a PowerBook 150 in 1996 and this 900Z totally blows it out of the water.

[*]I got the 15" SXGA screen. Wow, 1400x1050 is so many pixels! There's only one bad pixel in the upper right corner of the screen, and I'm ok with it. When I first booted up, ClearType was enabled in XP and it made text look kind of blurry, but once I turned that off, it was awesome (ClearType is a real personal preference -- I just like to see pixels on my screens)

[*]The keyboard is really nice because the keys aren't hard to press. I was afraid of buying a laptop without trying the keyboard, but this keyboard is very smooth. Every bit as good as my friend's Dell Inspiron 8100 keyboard. One interesting thing on the keyboard is that it has two physical keys to type backslash (or the vertical pipe, when shifted). This is nice because I'm so used to it near Enter. Alt and Ctrl are kind of small, but I guess that's to be expected. One thing I'll have to get used to is finding Fn at the bottom-left corner instead of Ctrl, which I'm always expecting there. It's very nice that cursor keys are in the standard inverted-T formation.

[*]The trackpad is a bit hard to get used to, probably because I'm used to my old PowerBook trackball. I think most people will want to use a mouse if you're going to use the pointing device for more than 10 minutes. One improvement I did was to disable the pad-tap feature in the control panel so that I don't accidentally do a single-click by tapping the pad. One thing to note is that there aren't click buttons above the trackpad, only below (some people may like buttons above).

[*]There's a special 4-way scroll thingy (I'm guessing to have somewhat the effectiveness of a mouse wheel). Seems like it may be controlled via proprietary software which might not be great (I can't stand tons of proprietary stuff that becomes unsupported over time. For goodness sakes people, leave the driver writing stuff to Microsoft [note: I work for MS in my day job ]).

[*]I tried running SETI@home on it for a while and, yes, the fan did turn on, but no hangs/crashes at all, so I'm happy with that.

[*]The palmrest does get somewhat warm, but not uncomfortably. The bottom is somewhat warmer than that, but not uncomfortable (not 140 degrees ). I used it on my lap to write this message.

[*]Overall, the laptop has a very high quality, refined and polished feel to it. Very stylish too.

For $1020 (after coupon, free shipping, tax, and rebate) I'm very happy.

RossMAN, if your 1500T is anything close to this, you should be dancing in the streets for the Ferengi Grand Nagus deal you got.

WAHOO! Staples just called me and said my laptop is here!! I ordered last Saturday and today is Tuesday so it's only been a little over a week (plus don't count Columbus day) so it really took only 8 days to get built and shipped.

How did mine get here so fast? Everyone else's seemed to take forever, like 3 weeks. Could mine be a bad or pre-built one or something?

Dood, you have no idea when they turned it on.....they could have forgotten to turn on the HP, and turned it on b4 u got there. I went to OD today and 3 laptops were off. This was around 2:30pm. I started one of the Compaq's myself. That is why I bring that up. Is it really that hard to understand???

Why don't you look at the review of anandtech and see how they criticize the cooling system of 900z,

and tell me how you feel when you put that hot lava on your tiny knee?

"Interestingly enough, it was on this access panel that the bottom of the Presario 900 got the warmest. The rubber pad over the memory access panel reached a scorching 145 degrees Fahrenheit (67.8 degrees Celsius), making it uncomfortable to have on ones lap for an extended period of time. Truthfully we could not figure out why this area of the system got so hot. The only thing we can figure is that some of the heat from the Radeon IGP northbridge is being channeled down to this area for cooling. Whatever the cause, the system's warm bottom temperature left more cooling desired."

Don't know but I have TV-out on my MSI geforce2 8831 Pro running on Win2000 with a late nVidia driver and I go Display Properties/Settings/Advanced Button/Device Selection tab and pick there. I think my TV has to be on and ready for the signal or it won't see it.

I ordered my 900z after 9/30 so I didn't get a free multiport wireless coupon. Can someone scan or post that coupon since compaq might have a grace period. It doesn't hurt to try, right?

I did it and force the plastic a little bit to take the flap out. Because there's a glue on it so it's hard to take it out but if you force it, you will be able to do it.

However, I took it back since I can't clean the glue all over the place.

does anybody know how to clean the glue thing?

I tried that checker thing too. I have a 900z BTO and it said invalid too. God damn, it SAYS friggin "including all built for you" laptops.

And I also tried summer rebate too. But it doesn't apply to the 900z!! Only 700, 2800, and 1500. Where's that summer rebate only for presario 900z that ended 10/12, and the site to check its validity?

Ug ... I've been looking at this thing for an hour now, and that rebate thing doesn't mention the 900z (as previously noted here), though it does say "including all Presario Built For You Notebook PC systems."

Anyone have any luck with the 100 buck rebate?

Well, I was wrong earlier. It looks like I qualified for the Summer rebate, here.

I entered my info on the above site and it said I was approved!
