Ripped from T-bargains.

Staples has a good deal if you want an AMD Athlon Based Compaq Desktop. Item 472165 is fully configurable.

Cheapest: Compaq 6000Z AMD XP 2000+ 128MB DDR/40GB
Free upgrade to 32x CDRW (Shows up after you select Free upgrade to DVD-ROM - Calc Price)
*haven't gotten the 32x CDRW drive to be free*

Ethernet, JBL Speakers, 56k modem, MS Works, XP Home $446 - $150 off Coupon (on staples website) = $296 + $75 shipping - $50 rebate = $321 + tax

2% from ebates also.

Also could probably use $50 off coupon. $50 rebate only good if monitor or other peripheral is purchased.

check the rebate, first option says just the tower itself.

Can't stack the 50 off coupon, you can only use the $150 off coupon.

You wouldn't get much profit if any at all. the only thing resellable would be the cpu, hd, ram, maybe the nic. There is integrated video card, and the hd is only 5400 rpms. In sum its a very bare system, but good at that price. The rest is integrated proprietary stuff that no one can reuse in their systems. (Ok fine maybe someone who has this exact model )

Hmm ok before I plunge, anyone have any idea where they got the "free CDRW" from? Be nice to point it to a CSR...makes the deal sweeter. I did find on Compaq's website "Free Upgrade to DVR OR CD-RW", so I think it is one or the other...

Anyone have any idea what the motherboard/case/psu is?

Also, here is some more info:

Video Card: Integrated ProSavageDDR KM266 graphics with up to 32MB shared video memory
Audio: Integrated Sound SPECIFICATIONS: 16-bit Max Recording Depth; 48KHz Max Recording Rate; 16-bit Max Playback Depth; 48KHz Max Playback Rate; 2 Speaker Support; General MIDI Support

Prices out at $539 pre-rebate, pre-tax, shipped free at compaq.com.

Hmm somehow I managed to get the free 32x upgrade to work. Try this. Remove the CDRW, update price, then go to back to it and you can select free upgrade instead of the DVD player. My preference is the CDRW over the DVD player.

Looks like it works.

As a few have said, Compaq has always used proprietary parts long ago when they started selling computers.

Yeah, there's gotta be some way to get free shipping on this bad boy. My sister needs a computer for college and this is perfect. Maybe try ordering it by phone and say that compaq.com is offering free shipping on the exact same system?

That could work... but I don't see the part about free shipping on the compaq website.

edit: nevermind, I found it.

Hmmm, for a decent game system, change the video to Gefore 4 TI4200 128 DDR w/ TV-out for $100 more (lowest on pricewatch is $141). Of course you'll need to up the ram and prob get a faster HD, but it's better to get those separately from one of the hot deals in this form.

546 - 150 rebate = 396 + 74 shipping - 50 rebate = 421 + tax

Hmm, I could buy this computer for my dad and pull out the GeForce card for myself Will the integrated video kick in then? Might take a BIOS tweak...

Here is what I ended up with:

Presario
+Ti4200
$546
Plus $75 shipping

HP 3820 Deskjet $99.98

$720.98

Less $150 coupon
Less $40 coupon (40 off 200)
Less $5 Staples business rewards starter

+$35 tax

$560.93

Less 2x $50 rebates

$460.93 total. Not a bad deal for my dad, since I'm keeping the Ti4200

I also get 50% off a computer purchase at work, so it will be pre-rebate, less another $280,

$180.93.

Of course I'm taxed on that $280...oh this is getting too complicated I got a good deal

I'm looking to order this for some RIGHT NOW! Is there any way to forego shipping costs and have it for in store pickup? Is that possible?

I think I will also get them an extra 256mb stick of DDR 2100 at newegg or something. 128 is not enough.

This is a great deal for someone who needs a new MS Office/web machine.

p.s. I am ordering the 4200 128mb for myself and also changed the 60gb 5400rpm drive to a 40gb 7200rpm drive for free. 5400rpm drives are of no use to me as a main drive on a Win XP system. It's craptacular.

Using the newly released Biostar M7VIG Pro ($60 del'd - Newegg), and the XP2000+ OEM CPU ($69 del'd - Pricewatch), you should be
able to build a much better computer for less than $321. Of course you must use some of the specials (*) listed here at AT to complete
the deal.

*Memory
*Hard Drive
*Modem
*CDRW

Oh, and the best deal on a nice looking cheap case seems to be the Comet (search "comet" at Pricewatch). Comes with a 350W PS this time !
It's only $32 delivered. (Comet Mid ATX 350W). This month they're shipping the Platinum color. Last month was Blue.
