The inifinity cases with 400w are $30 shipped...there was a long thread about the case, nothing bad about it either...

I presonally build my own, but you are excluding the OS in buidling a system and being the tech support for tha person

Can't forget OS/Software You can almost always build your own cheaper...but hey factor in your own cost of labor and it is a different story This deal is great for a quickie, or for giving to someone else (ie my dad) so when the annoying phone calls come in, you say "call compaq (HP) support! You've got a 1 year warranty!".

FW thread implied this might be an Nforce Mobo which is nice.

yah we probably could build a cheaper computer... but definately not much better.... it does save the hassle and time if you buy the compaq

Thanks guys!!!!

My deal is a little different. I purchased the 6000z w/Radeon 9000, optical scroll, and DVD drive (I have a nice burner just waitin'!!). I kept the 40gig 5400 because I have a nice full speed maxtor 60 waiting also. My addition is the refurbished HP 940 that enables the extra $50 rebate from HP and that comes with its own $30 rebate.

940 +$79.95
6000z +$571
Coupon -150
30/150 -30
CompReb's -100
HP Reb -30
Teach Rew -50
_________________

Total shipped AR $310

PS You guys might be able to build something close, but the nForce that this comes with is better even without the 9000 and you can't touch the software bundle let alone shipping and the perpetual hassle of making it all work. I enjoy building as much as anybody else, but I already maintain/upgrade 2 builts along with my ze4101 from last years deal of the year. I will enjoy being able to yell at somebody else if something goes wrong and with 3 kids and a wife it always does. (Plus it looks cool)

I started down the 940 route but the $50 rebate specifically excludes refurbs. May want to double check that...

I SCORED!!!!

FREE SHIPPING!!!

I called a local store and was told they would waive shipping if I orded it at B&M. I went down, sat down with the system guy, he punched everything into the system, including my coupon codes. He couldn't beleive the price. He printed out the order sheet and took me up to the register and told the cashier to void the shipping!!!! Total charge to my card with Tax..... $273.92 Total cost after $50 MIR $223.92

I have a $39 80GB 7200RPM drive and 512MB DDR that cost me total of $23.99 from previous hot deals sitting at home waiting for this System!! If the video sucks I will throw a nicer card in.....

Excellent deal!!!!

BTW: I tried the code that is on my recipt for the free shipping and it doesn't work online I also notice that one of the $20 off codes I used earlier is no longer working.....

Is it on their actual website?

Once you get to the actual product page (on staples.com), there is a link to the coupon. Can't miss it.

You know it is probable worth it to spend the extra $40 and get the Radeon 9000. You can always take it out and still have the onboard video.

But also I think the AMD systems that Compaq has are no where near the level of proprietary as the intel ones are. I may be wrong, or that may just have been the nForce ones?

And yes it is a ProSavage 8 onboard video. This is a KM266 with I think a 8235 Southbridge(which has USB2.0 etc..) But has a AGP port so if you add a video card it turns into a KT266a type board.

on the rebate form in the store (same as the pdf file) it says...

$50 Cash Back ? When you purchase a qualifying PC product.
- Eligible PC ? Any Compaq Presario? Desktop/Minitower PC models ending in NX, US, SR, RSH, KS, T, or Z*

since this ends in "T" I would say it qualifies.... Thanks for the info on the video chipset, I guess I could always stick my radeon 9700 in it.. Although, now I kinda wish I ordered the 9000...

I checked the Compaq web-site and it looks to be cheaper to go through Staples. With the 150 off and maybe coupons/rebates etc...

Also don't forget for only $10 more you get a better mouse and maybe keyboard.

I think the only way it will work is if they do it at the store, when I bought mine they had the free shipping code taped to the register.

At the Fat Wallet someone said there was a sign in a Staples B&M that said free shipping. So they called a CSR AFTER they placed their order and told them. The CSR asked what store it was so they could check and after they checked they gave them a $75 refund.

Other than that I don't know
