Yeah.. I am going back ..... $50 PM will get me down to $156.00... at least that will take some of the pain out of not getting the XP 2600+

Here is another option for an AMD system at Staples.

If you look at the Hewlett Packard Pavilion 554E on Staples, it also has the $200 instant off (same code as the Compaq) and $50.00 mail in rebate. Remember, Compaq and HP are the same now. The main differences between the Compaq and HP systems appear to be the cd-rw cost, cpu upgrade prices, and included software.

You can get the HP basic system, almost the same as the Compaq, in a slightly larger case. I configured an AMD XP 2200+ cpu, 128mb mem, 40 gig 5200 rpm hd, 48x cd-rom, no cd-rw, integrated Prosavage KM266 graphics, Polk MM-1 speakers, Windows XP home, Corel Suite, HP keyboard/mouse for $471.00. Compare that with the Compaq; for the same system with a 32x cd-rw and an XP2200+ cpu it's $616.

After the rebates, and adding in the $75.00 shipping, you get the HP XP2200+ system for about $296.00 pre-tax.

I have physically seen the interior of several different 6000z cases...I saw AGP slots just waiting for a new vid card...do you know if the HP has an AGP slot? I do like the silver/black Compaq cases better. Big and roomy!!!

Finally got through...argued for a bit, I originally had:

$150 off
$40 off
$5 off (business rewards).

Managed to get another $10 off ($200 coupon). She let me keep the $5. Oh well $10 is $10!

I purchased a BTO at the Staples in Wallingford, Ct on Friday. I went to the store, and explained that I rec'd the Automatic $150 off, and today, it is an automatic $200 off. They said they would have to call corporate tommorrow.

I just called the toll free Staples number, and they gave me a credit of $50 plus the tax back, credit to my Visa.

I wanted to order this, and when I tried to go to the Compaq website to see what their prices were like I found that their build-to-order section was down too. My guess is that Staples links to the Compaq site so you can't get system info from either site. If that's the case the store kiosks and phone orders can't get the information, or take order, either.
