Actually it's not all that bad....

As for dual 1.7, just find someone else that's getting one....someone will definitely shell out the cash to go to dual 2.2s or faster and will have a spare 1.7.

The bad part is getting RDRAM which is still really expensive.

rdram isnt that much more than ddr sdram.


pc2100 256mb is $55 on pricewatch. pc2700 is $62. pc800 is like $77. it is a premium, but not that bad really.


this is a pretty good deal. a dual xeon board supermicro e7500 chipset board and xeon 1.8 cost $415 + $210 on newegg so already $635. granted that supermicro board is a lot better since its a dual channel ddr one with built in video, and thats a prestonia xeon. you'd save money on ram ... but you'd spend a lot more to get that scsi hard drive, and buy a case, cdrom and win 2000 license.



btw a xeon 1.7 on ebay, goes for as low as $70... and up to about $90 on average.

Umm, perhaps, I forgot to mention, it takes ECC RAM.
Memorypro 256M 800Mhz ECC RDRAM is $86/stick and must be installed in pairs.
Samsung is $109/stick and Kingston is about $105/stick (been checking all morning *g*)

So it is a bit more expensive, but I'm trying to weigh all the options *g*

I had half a mind to get two of these boxes, and yank a processor so I could have a dual 1.7 and buy the rest of the parts.
Here's the breakdown:
2 computers + shipping = $1500
2 Xeon 2.2G + HSF + S&H = $600
4 256M ECC RDRAM + S&H = $550

Total $2650 for two boxes. Sheesh....that doesn't even include a pair of GF4 video cards.

I think I'll pass.... =8-(

P.S. On the other hand...if someone wanted to buy the dual 1.7 (with RAM, minus the HD), I *might* be convinced

It is a good deal
if you were to look it will cost you almost this much just for a good MB (like the iwll or the tyan)
I was looking at either one of these or a w6000
but be careful for you will have to find a vrm to add in the second processor

its a voltage regulator module (vrm)

The only ones I have seen are the one you get with it(you need 2 for dual cpu's)
and one in the compaq upgrade cpu which can be found on ebay
