I suspect pcmall and ecost are the same group of people...

or uses the same distributing center... they're price is always similar, same login, etc...

i create an account on ecost and used it on pcmall.. which was weird...

also similar mailing or same mailing address...

Ecost has no products. Their orders are services by PCmall (same company, separate divisions). That is why ecost orders always have a handling fee (but PCMall's prices are higher).

dont quote me on this, but I think there are might be 2 versions of this PCMCIA expansion pack, the older version, which selling for around 60-80$ online, which uses a Y cable to recharge the battery in the expansion, and the IPaq, and the newer improved version, which compaq probably
reworked the inner wiring, so when you dock the ipaq to the cradle, it will recharge both batteries. as of right now, I can't dock my ipaq and charge both of the batteries at the same time, because the wire is in the way.
I might have to buy the USB cable so I can recharge and sync at the same time...great more money down the drain...

PCCard stuff is not necessary.. I have a wireless pccard that I want to use.. also if I need CF stuff, since i dont have a cf sleve, I have that 10 dollar cf -> pccard adapter that i can use..

Should have gotten the CF & PCCard one !!! i could have put pics into the ipaq and wireless it into the network

I believe you could use a PCMCIA to CF adapter to use a CompactFlash card with the PC card - you woudn't need the CF sleeve.

FYI - 170338-B22 and 170338-B21 are identical parts. 170338-B22 is the commercial option number and 170338-B21 is the standard consumer option number

Y CABLE UGH SLEVE but hey I dont charge my thing on the cradle so I dont care.. extra battery whoo yoo

You have the CF Sleve, you'll need the CF Wireless. This is the pcmcia one since pcmcia in theory might be cheaper.. this sleve is both pcmcia and additional battery which is good. I have both the symbol wireless CF and pcmcia so I can use both now I'll be surfing the web while i'm in the can and put on yahoo and aim chat hahahahahah

10/100 Wired CF Network Card

10Mbps Wired CF Network

Wireless - I have the symbol CF one

What use is there for a PCMCIA sleeve?
Most people use these for wireless network cards, right?
Assuming you can get a PCMCIA sleeve for $60+shipping, wireless card for $50-60, that costs more than a CF Wireless card.
Most of the iPAQs come with CF sleeve (mine did), so it's cheaper to buy a CF wireless card, right?

Plus, isn't the CF sleeve lighter since it doesn't have an internal battery? Perhaps smaller as well?

I just don't see the point in having wireless lan. Why don't you just use your computer if you are around one. I was just looking for a modem to go with my cf sleeve so I can take this on the road and use like instant messenger.

In some ways it's nice to have a standard 802.11b PCMCIA card rather than the PC card if you have a laptop. If all your going to use the wireless card for is the ipaq, then it would probably be a lot smarter to get the CF card (especially for those who already have the CF sleeve). I'm not sure how much power drain a wireless CF would use up, so there may be benifits in having the PCMCIA sleeve because of its battery.

And yeah, the CF card is definitely smaller, especially if you get one of the symbol ones (they sit better in the CF slot). I'm not sure about the PCMCIA sleeve VS the CF sleeve. I haven't compared them side-by-side. If you got a silver slider, then I'd guarantee that your CF sleeve would be smaller.

here's a review I found on the symbol.

Many people/companies already have an investment in PCMCIA cards and the are other types of PCMCIA cards other than wireless. Can you say microdrives. We tried the D-Link CF wirless product on an eval and the "usable" time averages about 20 minutes using the internal battery of the iPAQ or about 45 minuties using a PCMCIA CF adapter in the PCMCIA sleeve with the externalbattery. The standard PCMCIA wireIess cards that we use have a usable time of about two hours. I would recommend that anyone "enhancing" thier iPAQ via expansion pack buy the PCMCIA sleeve even if you do not have any PCMCIA cards. If your iPAQ did not include the CF sleeve, you can still use CF cards with the PCMCIA sleeve by purchasing a CF PCMCIA adapter for less than $10.00. At least with the PCMCIA expansion pack, you will have more available expansion options and an external battery. The weight increase is not really an issue for us since expansion pack are weight balanced unlike those available for Palm devices such as Handsrping which put all te weight at the top.

I own both the CF sleeve and PCMCIA sleeve. In terms of the thickness, the PCMCIA sleeve is only slightly thicker than the CF sleeve but the PCMCIA has an external battery which can last 3x more playtime. If the CF sleeve costs $40 on street, why not getting the PCMCIA sleeve for under $70? In fact, with PCMCIA sleeve you IPAQ will have better expandability. Just my 0.02.
