Well my friend has a Presario 2500- 2.66 P4 80 gig hdd, 512 megs of ram and i beleive a 32meg mobility card.

Anyways, Saturday night he was chatting with friends and BAM laptop turns off. There was no sound, no nothing...and he was thinking about it overhearting because normally he uses a cooling pad because on its own the laptop is WAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too hot (But its withine with a cooling pad).

Also, he said before it haappens about 20 minutes earlier he was using compressed air to clean it, which may also be the culprit.

Does anyone have an idea? REgardless of where both battery and power, just battery, just power, nothing (duh ) is plugged in, he can't get it to turn on (And couple it with the fact he did not want to buy an extended warranty even tho it was probably not much in comparision to how much he paid) and so he is worried~especially since his project has been workign on for a while is due this friday (yup he should've backed up)

If anyone can help us out i'd really apprecaite it. Thanks

He may, depending on where he was cleaning, have killed the cooling fan(s). If you spin your standard brushless DC fan too fast it can burn out fairly easily. If the system runs too hot as it is, that could easily push it into full thermal overload. This would certainly cause the system to shut down and, either because of some sort of safety interlock that checks the fan before allowing the system to power on or because the system is dead, such overheating could cause your problem. I can not, of course, be sure that this is the problem; but it is worth a look(try starting the system with known good fans of suitable wattage patched into the fan headers). As for the project, you can always grab a cheap 2.5 inch usb enclosure or an even cheaper 2.5 inch IDE to 3.5 inch IDE adapter and snarf the files on a diffirent system.
Best of luck with that.

If worse comes to worse, he can take out the HD and use an enclosure. Then its just a matter of accessing the files via another computer.
I doubt this is a hard drive problem. I think its an overheating problem.
