If you are not familiar with the previous Compaq/HP BTO laptop deals at Staples or have questions please first read this thread, if that's not enough info then search the FW Hot Deals forum for ZE5000 or ZE1210 for additional details.
There are two Staples BTO laptop coupons.
Coupon code xxxxx is $150 off $1,099 or less BTO laptops expires 11/9/2002
Coupon code xxxxx is $300 off $1,099 or more BTO laptops expires 11/9/2002
There is a Staples $40 off $200 coupon which expires 1/31/03 and can be stacked with the above mentioned $300 off $1,099 coupon if your laptop configuration is $1,299 or more. Again your price must be at least $1,299 or more in order to use both the $300 and $40 off coupons together successfully. I have not tried using the $150 and $40 off coupons together because why would you only want to save $150 when you can save $300?
The $40 off $200 coupon code can be found using a search engine such as Google.com (search for STAPLES COUPON CODE) or search FW Hot Deals forum for Staples Coupons
Compaq $100 MIR for all Presario BTO laptops, offer is valid 9/22/2002 - 2/23/2003
Staples is running this Windows XP promo, I don't understand what you get. Anyone have a clue? Offer is valid 10/27/2002 - 12/31/2002
Remember to pay for your laptop with a premium cc such as a VISA, MasterCard or Amex which qualifies (call your cc and confirm your cc's eligibility for this feature) for 1 year of Extended Warranty coverage for FREE!
1) Compaq Presario 900Z starts at $1,169.
You need to come up with $130 in upgrades in order to use the $300 and $40 off coupons together.
Here are my strongly recommended upgrades:
+$100 15.0" SXGA display (the difference between this and the 14.1" XGA is like night and day, specs XGA vs SXGA).
The remaining $30 can be spent several different ways, choose ONE of the following:
+$60 Upgrade from Mobile AMD Athlon 1500 1.30 GHz to AMD 1800 1.53 GHz
+$80 Upgrade from 256MB RAM (2 DIMMs) to 256MB RAM (1 DIMM)
+$95 Upgrade from 8x DVD-ROM to 8x/8x/24x DVD & CD-RW combo drive
+$75 Upgrade from Windows XP Home to Windows XP Pro
+$39 Upgrade from nothing to Additional A/C Adapter w/ Power Cord
The default hard drive is 30GB if you downgrade to 20GB you'll save $45 or if you upgrade to 40GB add $65.
2) Compaq Presario 1510T starts at $1,229.
You need to come up with $70 in upgrades in order to use the $300 and $40 off coupons together.
Here are my strongly recommended upgrades:
+$100 15.0" SXGA display (the difference between this and the 14.1" XGA is like night and day, specs XGA vs SXGA).
+$29 Upgrade from 8 cell 57.6 WHr to higher capacity 8 cell 66 WHr LilOn (with my 66 WHr battery I easily 2 hrs 30 mins)
+$100 Upgrade from Mobile Intel Celeron 1.6 GHz to Desktop (not Mobile) Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz
+$50 Upgrade from 256MB RAM (2 DIMMs) to 256MB RAM (1 DIMM)
+$33 Upgrade from 20GB HD to 30GB
+$100 Upgrade from 20GB HD to 40GB
+$295 Upgrade from 20GB to 60GB
+$114 Upgrade from 8x DVD-ROM to 24x/10x/24x DVD & CD-RW combo drive
+$75 Upgrade from Windows XP Home to Windows XP Pro
+$39 Upgrade from nothing to Additional A/C Adapter w/ Power Cord
As many of you know I finally pulled the trigger and bought a laptop. After spending hours researching HP and Compaq laptops I finally narrowed it down to the Compaq Presario 1500T which I bought for only $837 with FREE 3 piece luggage, FREE WIFI card and FREE shipping after $300 off coupon, $50 off coupon, $30 off coupon, $100 Staples MIR and $100 Compaq MIR.
Here are some of my observations on the Compaq Presario 1500T:
1) I do not regret my purchase, it has been an excellent laptop.
2) Although 7 pounds weight may not seem like a lot, you do feel it. Of course we really shouldn't complain since we're getting such a kick ass deal on a great laptop. My next laptop will hopefully be an IBM ThinkPad R, T or X series weighing 5 pounds or less with optical drive and no internal floppy drive.
3) I'm a trackpad kinda guy, I don't really care for the nipple head eraser found on the IBM ThinkPad laptops. Then again 99% of the time I use my laptop at home with a USB Logitech optical mouse.
4) The 15.0" SXGA display upgrade which cost me an extra $100 is worth every last penny. It's simply gorgeous and as far as I know I have no dead pixels. If you can't decide between the 14.1" XGA and 15.0" SXGA some AT'ers recommended that I visit my local CompUSA/Best Buy and compare the displays myself, I did that and what I saw blew me away. I think of the 14.1 XGA like a 17" CRT at 1024x768 and the 15.0 SXGA is similiar to a 19" CRT at 1280x1024 (which is what I'm used to running on my Dell P991 FD Trinitron monitor).
5) I haven't used the floppy so I dunno how quiet or noisy it is.
6) I opted for the cheaper M-Celeron because it's fast, good on battery life and creates less heat. I was happy to see that the laptop feels fast and responsive despite the fact that it has a Celeron inside. If the 1500/1510 offered a P4-M (they only offer desktop CPU's not Mobile) then I might have opted for that.
7) My 1500T easily played an entire DVD movie with no problems, movie was about 2.5 hours long. Since I paid the extra $29 for the higher capacity 66 WHr battery I get at least 2.5 hours of normal usage which is perfectly fine with me.
8) The bottom of the laptop does feel a little warm if you keep it on your laptop the entire time.
9) DO NOT LISTEN to the Staples.com specs, this laptop does come with TWO USB 2.0 ports and ONE FireWire port ... every single AT/FW'er who bought this laptop can confirm this. I have used both USB 2.0 ports and it works great, haven't used the FireWire port yet.
10) I played around with some HP laptops at CostCo and CompUSA, I didn't like how mushy the keyboards were. The keyboard response on my Compaq Presario 1500T is great and it has a Windows key.
Phew I'm poop'd I hope I covered everything ...
This deal isn't as good as the previous deal but it is easier since you can buy this online and don't have to go to Staples B&M and haggle them to waive your $75 shipping fee. Of course this time around there is no $50 off or FREE LUGGAGE or FREE WIFI adapter but you know the old saying ... you snooze, you lose.
Last but not least please follow the Hot Deals forum rules and do not post coupon codes or do not ask or offer to PM coupon codes to anyone.
