Correction

the Productivity ports are +$30

And the store rep said that the BrightView Display was included in the price. Any one know if the BrightView is free or not?

Priced mine out at $489.99 after all rebates, or $514.99 with the big battery.

I will add 512mb RAM from NewEgg.com after for 768mb total.

I have read that the RAM inside of this notebook is PC2100 and although it is not recommended to install PC2700 RAM inside of your notebook, it may work but it is not guaranteed to work. It will more than likely still run at PC2100 speed when installed. I believe that you can change the BIOS to run PC2700 RAM, but I don't have the laptop in hand to check it out.

Hmmmm.....new update from my end.

ATi card is apparently shared memory. Neither the regular or the upgraded versions of the graphics have dedicated memory. A slight hit, but still a hot hot deal IMO!!!

Yes it is user configurable up to 128MB shared video memory (UMA) which uses part of the total system memory for video performance. This is why I am asking for recommendations on a 512mb RAM upgrade The 200M looks very good for the price of the laptop:

http://www.ati.com/products/radeonxpress200m/

The HP rep told me that if I wanted the ATI Radeon® XPRESS 200M graphics with 128MB of dedicated video memory, then i need to switch to the HP zv6000 series that has a 15.4" WXGA Widescreen and starts at $724.00 stripped down (no wireless) except for the 128MB video ram.

The HP dv1000 series (sister to the v2000) only has Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900. For 3D gaming I favour the ATI, but the HP has that handy remote control. If they were the same price it would be a tough choice, but the Office Depot sale broke the tie.

I see that the Staples $30 off $150 coupon offer on eBay $0.99 + $3.00 shipping is for catalog or online only!

Anyone get OfficeDepot to take $30 off at the register?

SuPrEIVIE in marketing this is called a "loss leader", an item sold at or below cost to get you in the store so you will buy other stuff while you are there. In the old days a lot of these were "bait and switch" where the salesman would say "You don't want this $399.99 underpowered laptop, here is a $1000 model that is much better."

The $40 shipping and expensive upgrades on this one is almost the same thing "here we will sell you a second 256mb RAM stick for $40 or replace the first with a 1/512mb for $55", but you can still get a basic AMD64 with wireless for $250 less than the HP site after all rebates.

Thanks JugStafe,

I am going to OD on Saturday for this, but still need a printable $30 off $150 or $50 off $500 Staples or OD coupon that has not expired yet. Can someone pm me or post a link. Thanks.

Ok last night i ordered mine.

AMD Turion ML-30 which has 1mb cache for $25 more than ML-28 which has 512kb cache.
40GB Hard Drive.
Free Bright Screen 14" Wide Screen.
54G Wireless.
and all the rest standard which comes with it.

Now i am really confuse about that $100 aditional rebate which says you much purchase 2 items to qualify, does it means i had to purchase 2 laptops for this rebate or it means Compaq Presario laptop + AMD 64 bit processor which i did.
My total was $869.99 which does not include $300 rebates from Office Depot & Compaq, so i am looking.

$869.99-$300 = $569.99 - $100 additional rebate = $469.99 which includes $40 tax + $40 shipping.

If you guys please let me know that i am thinking right about my price?

I was a little confused, too, but if you reread that coupon it says (in some of the smaller print):
"$100 Select B-Y-O HP or Compaq Notebook computer with a Select AMD 64 Processor Mail-In Rebate"
I'm pretty sure by 2 items they mean the notebook and one of the additional 64 bit processors.

$869.99-$300 = $569.99 - $100 additional rebate = $469.99 which includes $40 tax + $40 shipping.

If you guys please let me know that i am thinking right about my price?

Sounds right to me (and a great deal), I'm gonna go pick one up in a few hours I think. Thanks to the original poster...

You have to order the "productivity ports" for +$30 to get the 6-1 card reader. This is a $25 option through HP.

After much searching this is the best in store coupon I could find that was not expired:

http://e.staples-deals.com/StaplesCoupo...3=1600534080795271&c4=6590434080795275

If you have a larger one please post it.

As for the "Two items" question, the SKU number for the v2000z and the AMD64 processor upgrade have to be on the same receipt.

Thanks OP! I think I'm going to OD.

When configuring on the HP site, you can upgrade to a 5400rpm 60gig drive for $50. The standard drive is 40gig @4200rpm. If an option at OD, is it worth $50 to upgrade?

It's an extra $46 for the 5400rpm HDD. I went ahead and upgraded.

My total package came to 1179.49 w/ tax. If that additional $100 rebate works, I'll be getting the following for $780 shipped (stupid tax and shipping). I also didn't look for a Staples coupon...doh.

My config:
AMD Turion ML-34 (1.8Ghz) (+116)
200M w/ productivity ports (+25)
1x512MB Ram (+46)
Wireless (included)
60GB 5400 RPM drive (+50)
DVD/CD-RW drive (+26)
12 cell battery (+23)

I probably should have skimped on the processor, but I figured what the heck.
They say it takes 9 biz days to build and ship, so hopefully I'll get it in about 2 weeks.
Whomever gets theirs first, post a review/some pics!

What the hell Productivity ports are?

And what is this staples coupon has to do with this deal?

Ok, after reading some of the posts. I'm going to clarify as much as I can, so hopefully this helps.

MAIL-IN REBATES
(B-Y-O = Build Your Own)

- $100 - Compaq Presario v2000z - (B-Y-O Notebook w/ Printer Combo) - HERE

- $100 - Compaq Presario v2000z - (B-Y-O Notebook w/ AMD64 Combo) - HERE

- $100 - Compaq Presario v2000z - (B-Y-O Notebook) - HERE

- $50 - HP 3847 Printer - HERE
*This rebate can't be sent until printer arrives.

- $50 - Compaq Presario v2000z - (Configure to Order Laptop) - HERE
*This rebate can't be sent until laptop arrives.

IN-STORE REBATE

- $30 - This is $30 off $150 purchase - (YMMV, Staples Rebate) - HERE
*Thanks shortspanishguy for the link. This rebate must be used at register to knock off additional $30.00. **Fixed Expired Link**

The first three Mail-In Rebates can be sent in the day of purchase, the sooner the better. As mentioned in previous posts, you must have the combos (ie; AMD64 Chip, Compaq v2000z and HP 3847 Printer)on the same receipt!.

CLARIFICATIONS

1. Receipts must be dated by latest 08/20/05
2. You must go into Office Depot and with the help of a sales rep, customize your laptop via one of their kiosks.
3. Shipping cost is $40, that includes both the printer and laptop.
4. Estimated shipping/customizing time on laptop is 9 business days. The printer ships faster. (*Note - I finished order at OD on Tuesday. Yesterday I received tracking information for printer via FedEx... I assume FedEx will also ship laptop.)
5. BrightView, is a free upgrade.
6. The ATI Radeon Xpress 200m uses shared memory with the ability to utilize 128mb, in other words the more system RAM, the better... Duh.
7. The "ATI Radeon Xpress 200m w/ Productivity Ports" option includes the following: 1 firewire port, 6in1 card reader, an extra USB port and a connection port that looks as though it is used for docking the laptop... I'm not positive though.

I hope this helps.
