Anyone have luck (good or bad) with the FREE RAM deal at the KENNEWICK, WASHINGTON BestBuy store? It is the closest to me and still 90 miles away! I need a 1x512MB PC2700 for my new Compaq v2000z laptop arriving on Tuesday and a 512MB PC2700 for my homeoffice PC. I also have two other PCs that I could use a 512MB PC2700 and a 512MB PC3200 for. I am going to bring the laptop & homeoffice PC for a try Wednesday morning for the 2 stick max. If it works, I'll have my wife bring the other two comps later in the day after she picks the kids up from school. Hopefully I can just take the PC ram for a "come back for the install later appointment" and just put them in at home. What is the support# or Report# that you are using if they fight it? Any chance BB will honor the Staples $30 off $150 coupon it this deal does not work? 512MB PC3200 is $52 on newegg so no big sale without a coupon.

UPDATE ON RAM SPEED ISSUE: I spoke with HP in reguards to the ram showing up running at 133mhz.. well it turns out that the motherboard on the V2000 only runs at 133mhz... this means that the ram in there ISNT RUNNING AT FULL SPEED!!! WTH??? what is the point of installing ddr333 ram when its only running at ddr266?? Its a marketing scam I tell you, I bought this thing thinking that it was actually running the ram at the speed it was rated for, isnt that a obvious presumption?? I am really pissed.. crappy ATI chipset

My lappy just arrived this morning! It is pretty slick looking and fired right up with no dead pixels. Start up is alittle slow due to the 256mb base ram and all the HP/Compaq free software that will be remedied soon. No local wireless connections found. Oh well its the cable for now.

Did you guys tried CPU-Z to see what speed it is running, because i put 2x512mb = 1 gb i got from bestbuy and it worked fine at 166mhz.
So try to see if CPU-Z will say the same.

The wireless on mine is very weak. My Toshiba picks up everthing in the neighborhood,
this things shows low signal if I walk out of the room with an extreme G D link.
Tried at work today in a construction trailer, with Linksyis G router 40 ft away. Weak Signal. Anyone having similar problems???

I have the same problems too, if you click repair on the wireless icon it will fix it for a while. it seems like the longer its on the worse it gets. also, when it wakes up it is sometimes slow..

Hey, I got mine in other day. It's pretty nice, I downloaded a 720p windows media HD clip to test out the screen and it looked great. The clip played smooth as well even though I only have 256mb RAM. Must be the ATI graphics chip, I believe it has support for WMV HD decoding. Just curious, has anyone else noticed any dead pixels on their screen? I have 2 that are dead, and one that seems stuck (but not completely dead). Anyone know what their policy on dead pixels is off-hand? Thanks.

Just got back from BestBuy where they were all out of Kingston Technology 512MB PC2700 DDR Desktop Memory, but they still had a handful of Kingston Technology 512MB PC2700 DDR SoDIMM Notebook Memory at the Geek stand.

Thus, starts my hour and a half ordeal. In the end I was able to leave with only ONE FREE 512MB PC2700 DDR SoDIMM added to my v2000z base of 256mb. So it now has a total of 768mb with 128mb (auto-adjusted) going to the ATI 200M graphics chip set leaving 640mb which speeds things up considerably. When it ran with the base 256mb the ATI only took 32mb for graphics. At first they just said ?We don?t have to honor this.? After some back and forth I finally said to the Geek ?I don?t accept YOUR NO as an answer. Call 1800BESTBUY?. Finally they made the Geeks take the coupon, but the local store manager limited it to one per person. Still free is better than none, and I had time to go to Costco/PriceClub where I found a cool FM modulator for $14.99 that lets you play MP3s through your car stereo system off of a thumb drive by plugging in to a cigarette lighter! My goal of getting a decent laptop for less than $500 has been accomplished!
