Compatibility with AM3+

Helping my friend build a computer.
Crossfiring 7950s, so we need big power.

This one looks solid, but it's 2009. It claims to be "Phenom compatible" but will it work with the FX series?

It is an ATX power supply. Motherboards are made to conform to that standard. So long as you have that 24 pin motherboard connector and supplementary 4-pin or 8-pin 12 volt connector, it will work.

It's marketing. There's no way for a PSU to "detect" what CPU it's powering, so it will work. Keep in mind that you do not need that much wattage for CF 7950's. You could use a 650W PSU and still have headroom.

My setup has a 2500K OC'd to 4.4GHz, and a 7950, when playing Crysis 3, my setup pulls around 280W, and that is including inefficiency. These newer cards are a lot more efficient than you think. Save some money and buy something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817374032
