I think it would be good to have a competition every 10 weeks or thereabouts where we start a end date for entries and to see who can lift the most absolute? and the most with % over bodyweight?

What do you guys think? If so we can list exercises for people to do.

I would be ok with this, it would be good motivation when I get in the gym next week.

Are we going to know before hand what lift(s) we are going to use while we compete or will it be random?

I would go for this. It would give me the motivation to work on some things that I've been lax on, but are nearly certain to be included.

Hell yeah. Since my program has me maxing every week for different stuff, I'd love to do that. I think we should obviously have the standard squat, deadlift, bench, but other lifts can be included as well. Also, I think a sort of weight class would be good. We could either take the powerlifter weight class grouping or the o-lifting weight class grouping. Whatever you would like to do. I think that would make a good motivation to beat people within a bracket. Great idea, Koing.

We can do a strict lift over bodyweight and weight classes? Yeah the standad Olympic weightlifting ones would be good

We'll definately have the standard squat, deadlift and bench as well as other 'funkier' lifts.
Left hand deadlift (thats the current lift of the quarter in England. Every quarter theres a lift and a bunch of weightlifting clubs do it and we have a ranking list)
Straight arm pull over from the floor
On the floor bench press : You lie on the floor, get the bar to your chest and then press it up etc

We can have number of press ups, pullups and dips also. So the endurance guys can have some fun!

What do you guys want as the first exercise?

Sounds good, I think everyone should max their body out until they get a serious injury at least once in their lives. It builds character.

The weight classes converted to pounds are:

127.6
136.4
151.8
169.4
187
206.8
231
231+

So do we have an amount that a competitor is allowed to be over? In wrestling, sometimes there is a 2-5 pound allowance that you can be over. Will we do it that way or will we just say if you're under x amount of pounds, but above y amount of pounds, you're in this weight class?

Oh, and first exercise... my vote is for some sort of squat or overhead press

In most weight lifting competitions I know of, there is no leeway. If you're 1/10 of a pound over, you're in the next class.

Right, but I mean... we're not all training specifically for this and some leeway might be good especially with the natural weight sway of most people.

Thanks for the translation. I know it's about 2.2 lbs/1 kg, but I'm lazy. It sounds interesting. I just need to get my gym to buy a proper power rack so I can max safely.

I don't really understand the point of that - if theres a range, why wouldn't we just call it by the top of it? If its the 187 point weight class with a += 5 pound leeway...why not just call it the 192 pound class then?

In wrestling, that's for consecutive days of competition (so wrestlers don't stay dehydrated and starved for days in a row). It gets weird because it can "chain" together, so that although no team has been wrestling all week, you can get more leeway:

A and B wrestle Monday.
B and C wrestle Tuesday, with a 1 lb leeway for both schools.
C and D wrestle Wednesday, 2 lbs
D enters a Friday-Saturday tournament, bringing 3lbs leeway on Friday and 4 lbs on Saturday with them.

Edit: Personally, I'm all for a Bodyweight / Height system.

Well, it's like this: some people may maintain a normal weight at ~187. Perhaps they weigh in at 185 the day before and they're set. What happens if they weigh in the day of at 188? Does that mean they're in the 206 group?

For that particular competition, yes. Otherwise we'd just call it the 189 group.

I don't quite agree. I feel like average weight would be a better way of going about things. I say this because I'm not going to manage my water and carb intake for an online competition. I can sway 8 pounds fairly easily. I will be bulking fairly soon and feel I will be on the cusp of 169ish in a bit. *Shrugs* We can go that way, but I don't feel it needs to be taken as seriously as a powerlifting or o-lifting weigh in.

Whatever everyone else wants to do is fine with me - its just my opinion that if we're going to have weight classes, we might as well use them. I know this isn't a "real" competition, but in those, I know a lot of lifters that bounce back and forth between weight classes from meet to meet. Besides, we're having a per-pound ranking too anyway, so its not a big deal.

Yeah, I know, man. I'll compete either way. Was just kinda putting an idea out there so people can agree upon what they like. *Shrugs* Oh, didn't see the per-pound ranking either. Either way, it's no biggie.

If your not pushing it then get off the f0cking edge j/k

If you don't want to max out fair dues, it isn't for everyone. Like how I don't do reps as the hurt is different

There is no am ount your allowed over. Your either on the dot, under or over. If your 127.6 your good, if your 127.7, your not good.

We'll use a trust system to figure what class you should be in. Also to note most people don't have access to competition calibrated scales so we'll use whatever you have. But at least weigh yourself on the same day and preferably before you lift. Not 3 days or a week before

Just weigh yourself on the day and take whatever it is. It's just an online competition so if your over your over. We'll have class and the % of bodyweight rankings also.

We'll go with your back squat idea. 10 weeks time so thats 10th October. You can post any result you have up until the end of the 10th October.

I'll start and sticky a new thread for competitors
