First Hot Deal I missed seeing in a long time...and it was a doozy!

My parents would not let me go to the Day On The Green Zeppelin show so I never got to see em live before John Bonham died. Truly one thing in my life that I will forever regret not having done.

I finally got to see Plant and Page perform (with an Egyptian orchestra backing them up on Kashmir) in Denver, CO.

Rub it in!

I still have my LPs and a number of CDs but do not know how to convert them to a format I could then place on a SanDisk Sansa I got for Father's Day....

Plus, since I got my teenage son interested in Led, many of my CDs are now unusable due to his scratching them up!!! :frown:

Can anyone assist with either a "blow-by-blow" write-up on how to copy my CDs and transform them into an easy format so I can store them AND use on my SANSA without having to buy new software or the like???

OR

Links to where I can get usable copies of songs I already own BUT cannot use due to scratches??

A big thank you in advance!!:thumbsup:

http://www.maximumpc.com/artic..._all_your_music_movies

this is the best step by step guide to copy all your vids and music!

Have fun!

Edit:

ARCHIVE YOUR CD LIBRARY
Forget MP3! We?re making bit-by-bit perfect copies of our music collection
using a lossless codec

Audio CDs are susceptible to damage and
aging, so it?s a good idea to make archival
copies of your collection. We?ll show you how,
using the lossless compression algorithm
FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec).
A lossless encoder compresses digital
audio ? les with absolutely no compromise
in ?delity compared to the original. The only
drawbacks are large ? le sizes (though they?re
much smaller than WAV ? les) and scarce sup-
port among portable players. On the other
hand, FLAC enjoys wide support among
audio-streaming boxes.

This isn't your average MP3 RIP it's for people that want quality.

Thanks for ALL the links!

Funny, I subscribe to that magazine and forgot that was an issue recently...:shocked:

Ericlp,

You added something to your post about archiving - is that from the article (I haven't read yet) or is it related to something else???

Thanks again!

^^^ Yeah from the FLAC mag article. IMO I think it's the best way to backup your collection. The only problem is, I had to buy another hard drive! After I backed up all my CD's and DVD's it damn near filled my 500Gig Drive, and well, I thought if spent all those hours to back up my music, I might as well invest in another hard drive to backup all my time and effort! Sheesh, where does it end?

Now I have the source and 2 backup copies plus whatever is on my xbox or Ipod.
