Completely deactivating laptop touchpad - Compaq CQ62

I disable touchpads on all my laptops because I cannot stand using them and stick to using a mouse.

I just started using a different laptop which is a Compaq CQ62-210US. It doesnt have a hot key option to do so so I did the obvious thing and turned off the software and deleted the driver. I have done everything I know how to do and the touchpad is still activated. I have uninstalled the driver, deleted the software, and everything else but it still is working and causing me problems.

Does anyone know a more advanced way to do this maybe through Command Prompt or something else? A laptop with an active touchpad is worthless to me. I hit it constantly causing my cursor to go haywire and cannot do anything with it.

Any suggestions?

usually software that comes installed with touchpad lets you disable it.

Well, the laptop has a feature where you press a spot near a little light on the touchpad to "turn it off". However, it didnt turn anything off. I have uninstalled the software, deleted the driver and it is still active. The damn thing wont die.

Have you checked BIOS CMOS settings? That's where my laptop turns the touchpad on/off (disable/enable).

Did you try the button before you uninstalled the software? It may require the driver to set the touchpad to disabled mode.

Yes, I have done all of those. When I used that spot on the touchpad, it gave me a messaging saying it was done and the little light came on but the touchpad still took control of the cursor if contact was made with it.

I have gone through the list of the usual things that do it on every machine I have owned.

I also checked the CMOS settings in BIOS and there is nothig about the touchpad, I am going to contact HP-Compaq tomorrow and see if there is anything else. If not, I might just pop it open and disconnect the cable.

after uninstall, windows is probably just automatically reinstalling at bootup.... honestly since you tried everything else this may not work but...

have you tried, not uninstalling, but going into devicemanager, start/run/devmgmt.msc and rightclick on wherever the touchpad device is, and select "disable".... instead of uninstall perhaps it may remember its sapost to be disabled. mayb
