Thank you very much, dduggan47! I'll get that added to the list when I get home tonight.

Interesting project ideas there, but since none of them are even in the first stages of development and he basically just posted proposals for project ideas hoping someone will pay him to write the applications for the projects, I'm not sure if I want to put them in my list yet. If any of them actually get started into the development phase, I'll add them to the list.

The Ledien Classical URL has changed to http://boinc.gorlaeus.net

-jim

07 mar 2006
! Time to switch URL ! Currently the server has been assigned a second IP number, and with it a new URL (http://boinc.gorlaeus.net). The old URL (https://fwnc7003.leidenuniv.nl/Classical) is still active and will be the rest of the month. After that, the fwnc7003 URL will automatically redirect to the boinc URL for another period and after that, the fwnc7003 URL will be made inactive. Currently both URL's point to that same server machine (fwnc7003) but use different IP numbers and obviously different certificates. People joining in from now on automatically will work through the boinc URL and should *only* use the boinc URL to attach. Older members are requested to change URL this month by detaching and re-attaching to the new URL. Also now you are free to choose whether you want to use the https or http. Both are supported and by default the scheduler URL uses http now!

Thanks, caferace. I need to get that changed in the list but I keep forgetting to do it while I'm home (where my master list is saved). I'll try to remember to do it in the morning.

Added the new URL for Leiden Classical, and updated info on the XtremLab project to note that they are currently testing (and occassionally giving work to) a Windows client now.

Bi-weekly bump.

Not much action as far as project changes or updates lately that should be noted on this list. At least not that I've seen, so if you know of something, please let me know!

Not at all. I hope it's helpful. I use it frequently myself to check on my various projects while Mundayweb is out of resources, but it's nice to see someone else making use of it. And you're welcome to add anything else you know about these projects, too.

Bump for updates to BURP and Pirates. Both projects have been idle for months but released some new (limited) work in the last few days. Indications are that they will likely have more new work soon.

Because of these updates, I now have results in 22 different projects on my main home PC.

Updated info for Chess960 (account creation opens at the end of June) and added another project named TANPAKU. This is a Japanese protein folding project that is open for crunching but you have to have a 4.xx version of the BOINC client in order to attach to the project.

For the sake of better reading, it'd be nice if you separated the offline/closed/aborted/... projects from the active ones somehow. Takes quite some time to wade through the list to then realize that the project of your choice is offline.

The easiest way to do that would be to just split it into two lists, and I can certainly do that. I'd rather do it as a formatted table with color coding for different project status and other useful information but the forums won't let me do that. I might end up putting it on a web page so I can do any formatting I want, but I haven't gotten around to even starting that yet...

I've been trying to decide a good way to make the list more readable in a forum post without making it too bloated. I'm leaning towards getting rid of the attempt at columns and just make it more of a bulleted list with the individual project information but that will be harder to read for picking out open projects and project names so if you have any ideas I'm open to suggestions.

Hmm .. maybe with some extensive usage of the [H R] and [BUL LET] tags. The TA forums are pretty limited on these things, but then again, it keeps the really clean to read.

This is the project I'm working on. I hate trying to find the URLs to add the projects. Not to mention wondering what they all do, so I'll do summaries as well.

It kinda just has a few projects & some funny stuff on there (like the summaries aren't real) for now. I just wanted to give an example. Oh, and the information is automatically pasted to the clip board as of right now. I'll set it up so that a new, small window pops up with the information, but the URLs are copied directly to the clipboard for pasting into BOINC window....

I'll be updating with the projects in here, and try to figure out a way to organize all the data. Thanks Fardringle.

I completely redid the layout of the list. The list itself is much longer now, but I think it is easier to read and it will definitely let me add a lot more useful information about the projects. I don't particularly feel like creating a poll, but if you want to "vote" about whether to use the new or the old format, feel free to do so.

Edit: I plan to add the work unit times and project status (most that are blank are open) and descriptions soon. I would still like to come up with a good way to easily designate open and closed and pending projects. The best I can come up with so far is some combination of bold, italics, and highlights but that might make the list more "cluttered" and hard to read...

Edit again: After thinking about it a little more, I might put the status line in bold for active projects, and italics for inactive ones. That should make an easy designation (and easy to spot) for anyone just skimming over the list for open projects, and avoids using that really annoying highlight function.

Looks pretty good to me!

I think the idea with italic fort inactive and bold for active is a pretty good one.

I'd only put the active/inactive marker somewhere closer to the project title, maybe right below it. I doesn't help much if you're looking for a project, and you see we've got a TeAm there already, and how to create an account and how the WUs do to only then see that it's closed.

I guess in the end the TA forum's limitations will make this post really hard to comprehend. Maybe one of our guys with websites (e.g. Johan or FMC) would be willing to host a website just with the BOINC project list. There you could work colors, tables and what not.

Once that is done (either way, either in TA or external) we should definitely add the respective link to our welcome thread right on top of TA. (sidenote. that one needs an overhaul anyway)
