I wouldn't get this in your case since your 5870 is the bigger bottleneck for games. Also, unless you delid this guy, you are stuck at 4.4-4.5ghz most likely due to hot temperatures. Haswell I am guessing will take full advantage of the 22nm node and fluxless solder, thus hitting 4.9-5.0ghz (plus 22nm will be 12 months more mature). Add 10% IPC on Haswell over IVB, you are looking at 20-22% faster than IVB in probably less than 8 months. If you waited this long to jump on the SB/IVB architecture, might as well wait it out since Socket 1155 is dead.

Let's do the math: SB was about 15% faster in IPC over Lynnfield, IVB is what another 5% over IVB?

4.5ghz IVB ~ 5.43ghz Lynnfield or 43% faster in theory (but in games it'll be less since you only have a 5870 1GB). To get 43%, you have to get a new mobo + CPU for $280. In 8 months, you'll be able to pick up a 20-22% faster 4770K (or w/e) for another $40-50 (without sale it'll probably be $325). I think you should skip this one.

from what I've heard intel moved away from solder with Ivy because the mainstream Ivy chip simply didn't have high enough TDP to really benefit from solder for intel to care about it and thus went the cheaper route

I suppose its possible the beefier iGPU will up the TDP on Haswell to get it back to levels where intel would want to use solder again, but it wasn't exactly a mistake on their part to ditch it for mainstream Ivy, and I can't help but expect they won't go back that easy for mainstream Haswell
