geez that HD looks tempting for 99.99 but it says generic brand.. does anyone know if they put a maxtor in there or a wd? compusa brands usually do that

I would say its most likely a Maxtor....CompUSA brand is usually maxtor.

ok i just picked up a 160gb from Compusa in Georgia (asford dunwoody)... Don't think i can pricematch it though because the rebate is a "compusa" rebate but it really doesnt matter to me anyways.

Here's the interesting news! It ISNT generic at all... its not even compusa with a maxtor inside... its orginal maxtor brand with a free pci ata133 card! ymmv maybe

Staples won't PM...at least not right now.

Because of the price diff. and the # of calls they're getting, this is running up to Corporate so no response back until Tue./Wed. and my guess is the PM won't happen because of the CompUSA-only rebate.

BTW, I was in CompUSA this afternoon and this drive is definitely a Maxtor, in a Maxtor box and it comes with a ATA133 PCI card also....damn good deal if you ask me.

Basically it sucks much like all their products. Their a cheap company, what do you expect?

Example... ripping DVD's with my slot load Pioneer can get up to 8X, while the Mad Dog does 2X max.

Yep, it's one year. Incidentally, when I tried to PM at staples the manager came over and looked at the add for a couple seconds and said "Oh, we don't price match rebates." Never mind that their price match policy says absolutely NOTHING about not matching rebates.

Some stores will tell you that. You just need to find someone cool to do it for you.
BTW, I lost the email of the guy that was supposed to host my receipt from staples, so if anyone still wants to try and pricematch Staples, shoot me a PM.

TCH, both drives that I purchased came with ATA cards.
