Greetings, all. I stopped by the local CompUSA tonight and saw these on the shelf. 50-pack spindle of CompUSA-branded black 700MB/80min 16x media for $13.99 plus tax. I guess that CompUSA is getting rid of the stuff labled 16x, because they had 32x black media for $24.99/50-pack. I haven't burned any of these yet, but I've had perfect success with CompUSA 24x black media that I've bought in the past (a couple of 16-packs with slimline cases).

I also picked up a 16-pack of 850MB/99min CompUSA-branded 24x media for 9.99 plus tax. Nothing really special with that deal, but CompUSA is about the only place in town where I can find 99 minute media.

MisterE:

Can you post the SKU's on the 850/99 minute media? It looks like you can't over the 50pk black CD-R spindles off of the CompUsa.Com, but you might be able to get the 850's..

Might be SKU 282323

cheers,

jaybittle, SKU 282323 is correct for the 850MB/99min. media that I bought. Also, you are correct about the black media (SKU 282276, FYI).

Not to my knowledge there isnt. Most individuals use these to burn Playstation games.

wiru, I haven't noticed any functional difference when using black media. I use it for special purposes because it looks better than your average burned media. If you look at the bottom of a normal disk that you have burned, you can see the ring between where the data stops and the empty space starts (provided the disk hasn't been burned to maximum capacity). With black media, you can't see this ring. The bottom is totally black if burned or not. If you print a nice label to go on top (and I do this for special occasions using a colour Tektronix laser printer), then you can create a very professional looking product. I don't use black media for standard backup duties.

I use the black media for my PSX games too, but I also notice they seem to be more resistant to scratching, as in even if they get scratched up they still play in my car's head-unit. When ever i try to play a slightly scratched blue/green bottomed cdr it will skip. Could be just my experience with the maxell's but who knows.
