I have a Blackout Buster and like it a lot-but I am no expert on UPS's. My area gets frequent powersurges & lags, momemtary interruptions-this handles them all like a champ. It gives me more than enough time to shut down if the power goes out (which is all I want in a UPS). Finally, my previous Blackout Buster saved my computer in a lightning strike when my son's computer (hooked up to an expensive surge surpressor) got fried.

As I recall, though, they were slow on getting the rebate checks out.

Anyone have the Olympus D-490 digital camera?. Looks like a good price for a 2.1 megapixel, 3x zoom compact digital camera with QuickTime movie support and an 8MB SmartMedia Card.

$299 is a good price for the D490, but you should know that it has been replaced by a new model, the D510. The D490 does not have USB and I believe that the Olympus promotion that gave you a free USB Smartmedia reader with the purchase of a D490 has expired.

That said, I have the D490 and like it.

Nevermind. I'm going to answer my own question Here are the stats on the monitor:

Diagonal Size: 15 in
Pitch: .28 mm
Resolution: 1024 x 768 (XGA)
Refresh Rate at Max Resolution: 60 Hz
Color Support: Color
Viewable Size: 13.8 in

Doesn't sound like it's worth 50 bucks.

Does anyone have a "CompUSA" HD? Does the HD say "Maxtor" on the boot screen?

4500rpm, great for Tivo and dishplayer hackers. Sometimes quieter/slow is better

I had a D450 and my father had a 490. This series of olympus cameras are great. And for $300 (after all the rebates) its a good deal for a camera that takes wonderful pics. But as someone else said, this camera was replaced by the Olympus 510 which actually retails really cheap ($399). You can get the 510 for around $330 at buydig.com or i4digital.com. The 510 has a slightly different casing, but is USB (finally). So thats the direction I would head.

My negatives on the 450/490/510 is the speed of opening and closing the thing. It takes way too long, and if you preview pictures alot then switching back and forth is the biggest pain. The movie mode in the 490 (and im pretty sure its unchanged in the 510) does take quicktime clips but theres no audio. Now that I dont understand. Plus it takes AA's instead of Rechargeable Lithium batteries so to some people thats annoying.

For the price it takes great shots (indoor and out), its USB and it looks like an ordinary camera.

Anything about Half-Life: Blue Shift? I really want that title, but my local Best Buy's sold out before I could get it this week.

This HD was on sale about a month ago for the same sale price. It's a Quantum lct20 packaged in a CompUSA box with a one year warranty. The specs suck - 4500RPM, 15MS access time and 128KB buffer. You might want this drive for storing stuff like pics, music, backups, etc. but not for a primary drive.

Here are the specs on the Maxtor website -Link (PDF Format).

Lanyap beat me to it with the specs.

For $50 it's better than buying some ancient 3.2G hard-drive with similar cache and
speed specs for your girlfriend's machine. Or you can use it for storage of
your mp3s, pictures, or what-have-you. But no one is going to make a SCSI-beating
RAID setup out of these things

My family and I have been very happy with our Blackout Busters. No problems at all, and we have 4. I'm thinking the rebates came in a fairly timely manner. One thing I liked about Blackout Buster was that they did not try to hide who or where they were. They had their website and 800 number plastered on every thing. I got mine from CompScrewUSA for, I think, $50 after all the rebates.

Has anyone used these to protect video/audio equipment?

Stupid question, do these sales start on the 24th? I am really looking at that UPS for 30 dollars.

Thanks,
Chris
