Hi-Val is just a reboxer, like Mad Dog,etc. They buy hardware from various manufacturers and put it in their own boxes.

Is this stuff available for order online? I remember last year on BF, I ordered online and avoided the lines.

Yeah, but they're the same company as IOmagic and www.hival.com doesn't list a DVD burner. The dual format DVD burner IOmagic sells is an Optorite.

The IOmagic is not an Optorite. If you have some evidence of this please post it. The only DVD burners Optorite makes have a Sanyo optical unit and feature HD-BURN. You are doing a disserrvice to Optorite by making claims that the IOmagic is one of their drives.

In the face of your compelling evidence otherwise (LOL), and you not even bothering to look up IOmagic's support page, I don't see the point. But to make you happy, take a look here: http://www.iomagic.com/downloads/firmware/update_2000xp.asp, and you'll see the firmware update for the dual format DVD burner is for an Optorite drive (outdated, too). LOL

I never noticed this before, but do they move the items around at 5? I was thinking about scouting out the locations first, but if they are just going to randomize it...

OK...I read the specs on the sound card but I do not really understand sound card stuff...... I have a motherboard with the soundstorm audio and it is the best I've ever heard and want something comparable....can the Mad Dog sound card compete????

on the back page of the ad, they also list the 19" Envision LCD monitor for $499.99 (649.99 - 50 IR - 100 MIR)...

according to the COSTCO deal on this monitor (EnNvision only has 1 19" LCD model), it has DVI and 25 ms response time....

other specs:

600:1 contrast
250 cd/m brightness
170 vertical degree viewing angle/170 degree horizontal viewing angle

EN9110 #304954

Don't bother with MD 6 channel card for $5AR. It uses the CMI 8738 LX chipset and the audio you have already is better. It's not a bad card FAR when I got it from OM.

OK, so maybe Optorite has done themselves a disservice by making a drive for IOmagic. Their Cd burners were junk. So it is interesting that their firmware works in a drive that doesn't support HD-BURN.

From the IOmagic website: "This firmware only applies to drives that have the following ID string:
Generic DVD RW 4XMax

In other words what you get inside a box labelled IOmagic could be made by anybody, and not necessarily an Optorite. The Optorite is a good drive and can be bought for a little over $100 without any rebates, and it does have HD-BURN. Stick with a name brand like NEC, Plextor, Sony, Lite-On, Optorite, or whoever so you know what you're getting is a good burner.

Rofl.. not on your life. You would be going back 3 generations, and upping your CPU usage...

Exactly my point too. With ConUSA's history on not paying rebates, I hardly shop there anymore. Last time was last year, when they had their anniversary or whatever, they sold e-machines w/o rebates.
But after all the experiences I would not do rebate items with them anymore.

Don't forget to point out that Pinnacle has also done the same thing since the IOmagic PVR product is a Pinnacle PCTV pro.

From the support forum, the IOmagic drive is definitely the Optorite DD0203. It's also sold under the Digital Research name, so it's pretty likely it's also in the Hi-Val box, too.

Which was why I said the HiVal was probably an Optorite. Seems like so many of these no frills brands are OEM'ing the Optorite. If you go to HiVal's website and go to buy from their online store, it takes you to IOMagic's website.

Same here (over 100).

Any opinions on the 14" LCD for $140?
Kogi - they've had this many times before for $149.99 AR so I wouldn't make a special trip for it. BB is going to have a 14" Mag for $99.99 AR after Thanksgiving and it is not in their 6 hr early sales items, so you should be able to get it after the 6AM crowd is gone.

Every Hi-Val item I've bought has been pure junk. Get the NEC DVD burner from NewEgg and save yourself some grief.

But Optorite's "good" name is soiled now. LOL

I'm glad you mention the lite-on because bb has one on sale and I was wondering if it would be any count. A burner is on my list to buy but I know nothing about one.
