"Yeah, but they're the same company as IOmagic and www.hival.com doesn't list a DVD burner. The dual format DVD burner IOmagic sells is an Optorite."
The IOmagic is not an Optorite. If you have some evidence of this please post it. The only DVD burners Optorite makes have a Sanyo optical unit and feature HD-BURN. You are doing a disserrvice to Optorite by making claims that the IOmagic is one of their drives.

Exactly my point too. With ConUSA's history on not paying rebates, I hardly shop there anymore. Last time was last year, when they had their anniversary or whatever, they sold e-machines w/o rebates.Originally posted by: misterj
do they sell ANYTHING w/o a rebate anymore? sheesh
Don't forget to point out that Pinnacle has also done the same thing since the IOmagic PVR product is a Pinnacle PCTV pro.Originally posted by: conehead433
OK, so maybe Optorite has done themselves a disservice by making a drive for IOmagic. Their Cd burners were junk. So it is interesting that their firmware works in a drive that doesn't support HD-BURN.

From the support forum, the IOmagic drive is definitely the Optorite DD0203. It's also sold under the Digital Research name, so it's pretty likely it's also in the Hi-Val box, too.
But Optorite's "good" name is soiled now. LOLOriginally posted by: WHipLAsh13
Which was why I said the HiVal was probably an Optorite. Seems like so many of these no frills brands are OEM'ing the Optorite. If you go to HiVal's website and go to buy from their online store, it takes you to IOMagic's website.
