got one but then returned it because I got a defective one, bad signal and always reset itself. Got a Netgear one instead and I am happy . But that compusa or some F something company router is sure cheap and is a good deal if you got a good one. Here in San Jose store there are stacks but no one buy them.

I bought one of these when they were $26.99 a few months ago. Better range than my other one (Compaq), and I've never had to reset it, though I use it as a wireless access point and not a router. This is a great deal for no rebates if you need 802.11b. At this price, it's tempting to get a third for the basement....

This looks like a good deal to me. I've been thinking about picking one of these up since the laptop I bought came with a wireless card. Also I currently don't have a router, just a switch and I use my main pc to do internet connection sharing.

i have this router, and the deal is back....
have it for about 6 months already...no problem so far....

does anyone who already owns this router have any noise issues with it? it a slight 'whining' type noise that I never noticed before so I am not sure how long it has been there....the router itself works great though...

Got one SUnday - will hook it up this week . It says it comes with a CD, mine did not have a CD. Any reason why I would need it??

Yes, but you'll need a crossover cable. Plug it into any of the ports, turn off the server functions (DNS, DHCP, etc.), and you're good to go.

... or an auto-sensing switch. Being that most new ones are, he'll probably be fine with a straight through cable.

No noise issue here. As far as I can tell, it's completely silent. I did have some reset issues, however, until I updated the firmware. It's worked great ever since.

Thanks for the link commOdog!.

I picked up one a couple hours ago. No CD comes with it. It is (to me), highly customizable via a Telnet connection direct to the router.

A little rant: My box was was marked down from $99.99, to $69.99. I wasn't sure it'd actually be $19.99. A quick check on my Treo, from the store, confirmed the sku. I took it to a CompuSerf and asked the price. The CompuMoron looked at the label and said "it's $69.99, that's what it says." I thought "No way? Really? I'm asking you to CHECK, not READ the label which I can do fine, thank you." I said "Can you PLEASE check?". The lazy dude dragged his feet to the register, and checked. Out of the corner of my eye, I clearly saw it said $29.98. But not wanting to look like a bigger idiot, handed it back to me and told me it was $69.99.

I doubled checked the sku from my Treo, and prompltly took it to another dude. He said it was $29.98. I told him about the price on the web, he double checked, and gave it to me for $19.99. Damn, some people can almost really push you to give up on a good deal.

I said 'almost'

i got it today.. i had to search for it at my local woodland hills store to find it. It was behind some other routers hidden in the back.

Its working fine.. its setup as a router so i can give free access to ppl and hide teh wired network from prying eyes.

I too had a defective one. It kept resetting itself every once in awhile. I updated the firmware and it didn't fix the problem so I returned it and bought a different brand. It seemed flimsy compared to my metal router.

got my router, works great except its missing an LED on lan port 2 (WTF?) i'll take it apart and see if it fell inside or something.

Works pretty good and has fairly good options for WEP security. Have 2 PC's wired in and 1 laptop wireless,

Installed and configured very easily.

definately worth the 20 bucks so far

Its sold out right now.

**EXCELLENT** cheap WiFi router/bridge/WAP combo. It has all the basic security options, and as long as you update the firmware, it has GREAT reception. It goes across our 3.5k sq ft house just fine, even on the second floor. As long as you update the firmware with the Gigafast clone's, it doesn't have signal resets or anything.., I'm typing on it right now with a Orinoco card.

WEP is a joke, but as long as you secure it with MAC filtering, and hidden SSID broadcasts, it is good for surfing. And I doubt there are wardrivers in my neighborhood : /

Glad you mentioned those other security options. I've got those other security options enabled on my Compusa router and when I have my laptop search for available networks it can't even see mine unless I specifically tell it that the network's there, thanks to the SSID being hidden. I personally think the big first step in securing your network is to make it appear to not be there the best you can. It is the same principle as having your firewall ignore port scans. No one's gonna hack you if they don't know you're there.

Plus I have the added level of security of having a neighbor below me that has a totally unsecured wireless router. WEP isn't turned on, no MAC filtering is going on, and the SSID still reads "linksys" in my wireless card's list of available networks. Who's gonna bother trying to break into my little hardened access point (I'm running 128-bit WEP, a hidden SSID, and MAC filtering) when all they have to do is hit "connect" and they are on my neighbor's network. I'm still trying to decide if I should break the news to my downstairs neighbor. I sorta feel obligated to warn them how wide open their network is, but at the same time I'm worried they'll misunderstand and think I was being nosy or even trying to hack their computers. It is a bit of an ethical delimma...

Anyway, if you can get hold of the router, it is a great deal. I love mine. It works great and was a steal when I got it for just under $30. At $20 there is no reason not to get one if you can. I've had hardly any downtime with mine and the signal is pretty good for a single antenna router.

If you go on the Compusa website and go to the customer service link you get downloads for compusa branded products. They have the 1.35a up and also have a 1.941 link

It is definately worth the $20 bucks if you update the firmware. It's really easy to do, if your not going to do the update then don't bother with this router.

Good luck.

So, recheck the local stores. More may appear.
