I went to the CompUSA in Garden City, NY today, hoping to pick up the PDA stuff today and PM it later in the week. I managed to find one of the PDA starter kits, I think it's complete, but could not find any of the AAA quick charger and batteries. A couple of people thought they were probably still in the stockroom. I've never been to a CompUSA store that does not put out sale items until Sunday, presumably to avoid letting people do what I wanted to. Anyone else? Now I am going to have to hit my local (30 minutes away) store tomorrow to make sure I get the charger, which I really want since I bought 8 Rayovac AAA's this week and realized that I needed a 9th for our FRS's (we have 3), and the charger would be nice too.

Anyone have any experiences with CompUSA cases? A 300W case for $35 looks nice if the power supply can handle Athlons. It would be nice to buy a case and not get socked for shipping charges.

I would hope that the charger can handle NiMH batteries since it comes with 4 of them (600mah).

Stores seem to open at 10am in my area (NY).

Hey can anyone tell me if the SMC wireless broadband router with free SMC PC card is a good deal or should I wait and look elsewhere. That 802.11g standard looks interesting...

*Update*
Thru PM and rebates there's also a D-link wireless router (same one as the SMC one, rebadged or something) and a D-Link PC card (not sure about the card) that costs $5.01 less does anyone know if this is a better deal than the SMC.

I was wondering the same thing. The CompUSA site says it is 'AMD Athlon ready' but the AMD approved PS listing does not show the FMI PS. Which may not mean beans since AMD is usually very slow to update their list. Still.....

Mysterie, I think it may be over, but ususally it is back in a week or so, Dell has the LinkSys Access Point Wireless DSL/Cable Router, something around 180 or 190 -10% -25 rebate and its 135-137 after rebate.

Mysterie -

I've tried the Linksys, Netgear and Orinoco and the Orinoco wins hands down. SMC I've never tried but most people prefer the Orinoco for wireless.

I went to the White Plains, NY store at noon. They were already out of both of the free after rebate PDA items (accessories kit and batteries/charger). I asked the guy if that meant they only had a half dozen of them and he said no and pointed to the display, where I suspect about a dozen of them could be stored (when I pointed out that I tried to buy it yesterday at another store he basically said they did not put stuff out so people like me could not buy it in advance). I was so pissed, I really wanted those batteries/charger. Fortunately, I bought the PDA kit yesterday and will price match later in the week. If someone else bought it, can you please PM me with the UPC, when I bought it yesterday, it would not scan, and the SKU on the label was partially scratched off, so the cashier entered the SKU number from the ad. I hope I didn't end up with the wrong item (I don't think I did).

Maybe they will get more of the batteries/charger in later in the week (yeah, right).

About the case, I take a look and there is no real place for fan because the PS is vertically place (block the usual place for fan) that means do not use it with Athlon (as least AMD call for a case that has a front and real fan) unless you want to mod it by yourself.

I purchased the 384mb pc133 for $35. The 256mb stick used Micron 7.5ns chips and the "free" 128mb stick uses Infineon 7.5ns chips as well. I installed the 256 stick and it will run CL2 @133mhz no problem. I have a KT133 chipset, so I cant really push it to see how far it will go.
I dont know about the Infineon stick, its still in its package

I just came back from the store, and can offer some more information about the sale items:

- The case has FOUR 5 1/2 bays and horitzontally mounted PS, the ad images is wrong. The image is the 250W model.
- The case is pretty average, I didn't like it, construction quality is bad. I bought the $19.99 PS instead since I already have a case.
- The 24x Hi-VAL CD-RW for $99 is made by LG.
- The DVD-ROM is made by a Korean company, not Toshiba nor Pioneer OEM

Plenty of 24x CD-R media left in Portland, Oregon store, I see at lease 200 of those. Few Imation CDR left, 75% off goes for all Imation brands, send MIR for 75%.

USB Hub for $10 is a bad deal, Frys has it for $5 after rebate. Works great.

Hope this info helps you guys.

My problem is that I have been spoiled by my Barricade so I want a wireless router with a print server and a PC card that's attractively priced. Those two, SMC and D-Link are the best ones. I'm not looking for a large distance or range just as long as it works good for 20 to 30 feet and thru a few walls and still cost , router and PC card, no more than $200 or less if possible (I'm on a really tight budget). If not it may just be best if I waited for the prices to go down. I don't think I'll ever use the 'a' standards' bandwidth and with cable the 802.11b with 11mbps seems just fine.

Thanks for the suggestion thru, maybe I'll pick up some Orinocos when they come down in price. Also thanks Pothead for the Dell suggestion but I though maybe the belkin deal was better (maybe not?), oh well I'll keep my eye on Dell for the deals.

I don't like to shop on Sunday so I always miss out. So I check online for the PDA AAA NIMH charger. It said in-stock so I went down. First thing I did was have somebody check the computer for stock. They had five. Three CompUSSR employees later nobody knew where the 5 were. Then a manager happened to walk by. He said they were sold out. One of the employees stated that the computer said there were 5 in stock. He just said we are out of stock. Lazy manager. In the meantime one of the three original musketeers looked behind the camera counter and found 1. WOW! Somebody found 1 of the 5 in stock. Where are the other 4?

Walked out with a spindle of the 24x CD-R's and the PDA charger. Lucky me.
